Dear Lord, on this Thanksgiving Day I want to pause and thank you for the blessings surrounding me. For another day, for family, friends, for food on the table. You are the source of all good things and praise you for the simple things that bring us joy. Help us keep our eyes on this day and every day so our lives may be filled with praise and joy. Amen.
On Friday, October 9th, 2020 the staff and students participated in a Thanksgiving Liturgy. The liturgy was broadcasted into the classrooms through the Microsoft TEAM’s platform. Thank you to our students and staff for leading the celebration.
Student Achievement Evening
On Thursday, October 15th, 2020 SJOA will be hosting our Virtual Student Achievement Evening. There will be 2 live sessions offered: 6:15 pm – 6:45 pm and 7:00 pm – 7:30 pm. All TEAMs invites will be sent by homeroom teachers to families for both sessions, as this will help in determining which session you would like to attend. All invites will be sent out either on Tuesday, October 13th or Wednesday, October 14th.
During our Student Achievement Evening, staff will provide a virtual tour or a snapshot of your child’s classroom in addition to the online platform of your child’s class. We ask that we respect the privacy of all students by not discussing any confidential or personal matters with staff during the virtual meeting, rather use this time to learn more about your child’s class. For all other individual matters, we ask that you directly contact your child’s teacher.
Halloween Dance-a-Thon Update:
On Friday, October 30th, 2020 St. Joan of Arc Catholic Elementary School would normally be hosting its annual Halloween Dance-a-Thon. In keeping with our safety protocols and large gatherings in the school, the Dance-a-Thon is canceled for this year, however, staff and students will be encouraged to dress up in their Halloween costumes on Friday, October 30th. Individual classes will participate in a variety of games, and activities as well as class dances if they wish.
Every year the Halloween Dance-a-Thon is SJOA’s major fundraiser and your Catholic School Council has a few ideas on how to fundraise this year and will share this information with you in the coming days.
Self-Assessment Screening Tool
The Ontario government has released changes to the COVID-19 School Screening Tool used to monitor for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 in children. Please use the October 1st Update – COVID-19 Screening Tool for Children tool before leaving for school each day.
Students are encouraged to wear Purple to support individuals and communities who play important roles in supporting vulnerable children, youth, and families
