Weekly Update June 22nd to 26th

Happy Father’s Day!

GOD OUR FATHER, WE GIVE YOU THANKS AND PRAISE FOR FATHERS YOUNG AND OLD. WE PRAY FOR YOUNG FATHERS, NEWLY EMBRACING THEIR VOCATION; MAY THEY FIND COURAGE AND PERSEVERANCE TO BALANCE WORK, FAMILY AND FAITH IN JOY AND SACRIFICE. WE PRAY FOR MEN WHO ARE NOT FATHERS BUT STILL MENTOR AND GUIDE US WITH FATHERLY LOVE AND ADVICE. WE REMEMBER FATHERS, GRANDFATHER, AND GREAT GRANDFATHERS WHO ARE NO LONGER WITH US BUT WHO LIVE FOREVER IN OUR MEMORY AND NOURISH US WITH THEIR LOVE. Amen

It is very hard to believe that it is June. The school year seemed to have passed too quickly and with its fair share of challenges.  As we have worked together as a school community to overcome these challenges, once again it has truly been a blessing to have witnessed the social, emotional, physical, academic and spiritual changes your children have experienced over this school year. All the staff at St. Joan of Arc more than ever appreciate your support and assistance in your child’s Catholic Education.  We want to sincerely thank you for continuing to make our jobs such an amazing and rewarding experience.  We would like to wish you a safe, healthy and happy summer.

Distribution of Report Cards

This year, in light of the school closures due to COVID-19, student report cards will be delivered electronically. The report cards will be delivered directly to parents and guardians by email on Wednesday, June 24, 2020

Parents and guardians will need their child’s Ontario Education Number (OEN) in order to access the report card. Your child’s OEN number can be found on a previous report card.  

The Ministry has waived the expectation for both a teacher and parental signature for this reporting period.  The School Principal’s electronic signature will appear on all student report cards. 

As with all reporting periods, parents and guardians may contact their child’s teacher to arrange a time to discuss the report card. 

You are also welcome to contact our school administration with any questions or should you require further clarification. 

Special Education Summer Learning Program Coming Soon!

Do you have a child with special education needs in Grades 3-12+? Are you interested in having your child participate in summer learning?

The Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) is launching a Special Education Summer Learning Program to cater to your child’s unique learning needs! Classes will be offered in a distance (e-learning) virtual environment, that will provide students with synchronous activities and instruction.

 When will the program take place?

The Special Education Summer Learning Program will run for 2 weeks in July and 2 weeks in August, 2020. Parents have the option of registering their child for one or both sessions.

July Session – July 13- 24th

August Session – August 17-28th

What will the program cover?

The focus of the summer learning program will be on functional literacy, functional numeracy, and adaptive functioning skills. The August session will have an additional focus on the transition to back to school for the 2020-2021 school year.

How do I register my child?

Please contact your home school’s Special Education Resource Teacher (SERT) or Special Education Department Head for program information and registration details.

As space in the July and August sessions are limited, parents are encouraged to reach out to their SERT as soon as possible! ​

Donate Your Empty Bottles to Food4Kids Halton! 

Food4Kids Halton is a not-for-profit organization that provides healthy food packages for at-risk children who have limited access to food. 

From June 22 to July 9th, Food4Kids Halton will be available to collect empty bottles from families in our community. If you have empty bottles (wine, beer, coolers, liquor bottles or cans) Food4Kids Halton will take them!

Courtesy Seats on School Buses for the 2020-2021 School Year


Families with children who take the bus to school are advised that the application process for receiving courtesy seats on school buses will be delayed for the 2020-21 school year. Due to physical distancing measures in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19, it may not be possible to grant courtesy seats or the process may be delayed for next school year.


However, parents and guardians can continue to submit a Courtesy Seat Application, and will be notified via email once a decision on this process has been made.


Please note that there is no guarantee that a courtesy seat will be offered if you submit an application, or if your child had a courtesy seat in the past. Visit the Halton Student Transportation Services website for more information: www.haltonbus.ca

School Access

Many students have left personal belongings in their lockers or classrooms. All parents should have received emails to sign up for a time to pickup their child’s materials on Wednesday, June 24th, 2020.  Click HERE to access details and information you will need to know about gathering your child’s belongings.  A reminder that student item pick-up/drop-off will take place on Monday, June 22nd (Grade 8s ONLY) and Wednesday, June 24th (Grades K-7). If your only child at our school is in Grade 8, please do not register for a time on Wednesday, June 24th.  If you have not already done so, please take some time to fill in the Google Form. The link to the form can be found in an email sent to families on Wednesday, June 10th at 3:00 pm.

Waitlist Opens for Grades 6-8 Literacy and Math Summer Programs

As a follow up to the email sent earlier in the week, please note that the registration portal and waitlist has been re-opened for the Grades 6-8 Literacy and Math ~ Distance Learning Summer Programs, taking place this July.

Due to high enrolment, all new student registration requests submitted after June 10th will be added to the current waitlist. New classes will open based on teacher availability, and registrations will no longer be accepted when classes are full.

Please note that filling out the following form does not guarantee admission into the program as spaces are limited. Parents and guardians will be contacted directly if their child is placed in a class.

Are You Moving?

If you are aware that you will not be returning to St. Joan of Arc Catholic School in September, please let the office know, you can email Mrs. Freeze: freezev@hcdsb.org. We are starting preliminary planning for next year and having the most updated information is very helpful when we look at numbers for class organization.
