OurSCHOOL (Tell Them From Me) Student Survey
In our on-going effort to increase school effectiveness, over the next few months we will be implementing an online school survey for students – OurSCHOOL (formerly called Tell Them From Me). Developed by The Learning Bar, this survey is based on the work of co-founder Dr. J. Douglas Willms, and it has quickly grown to become Canada’s largest national school survey.
OurSCHOOL allows students to provide their input into school improvement initiatives in an anonymous way. The survey includes measures around social/emotional outcomes (e.g. student engagement, emotional health), physical health outcomes (e.g. physical fitness, risky behaviours), and drivers of student outcomes (e.g. quality instruction, classroom context). The survey also allows students to share their thoughts about their school community in an open-ended response question. Parents and staff will also have an opportunity to participate in a similar survey later in the school year.
In the Fall of the 2017-2018 school year, all grade 4 to 12 students across the Halton Catholic District School Board will have an opportunity to participate in the survey. At St. James, Students will be given time to complete the survey during the school day on Friday October 13, 2017.
The survey is completely voluntary and anonymous, students may skip any question they don’t want to answer and their identities are unknown as student names are not included anywhere on the survey site.
We value the input of our students, and we hope you will encourage your child to complete the OurSCHOOL survey. More information is available at www.hcdsb.org.
