Peacemakers Food Drive:

As we prepare for the season of Advent, Mrs. Baker’s Grade 2 class has organized the Peacemakers Food Drive. We are asking each class to collect canned food donations to help those in need. Donations will be collected from November 23- December 7. Most needed items are canned soup, canned meat canned pasta, pasta sauce, hot and cold cereal, jam, nut free cereal bars, pudding/fruit cups and rice. All donations will be given to the Fare Share Food Bank after the Peace candle is lit this Advent season. Thank you for helping us be Peacemakers and help those in need.

Parent-Teacher Interviews:

“We know that parents have an important role to play in supporting student learning. Studies show that students perform better in school if their parents or guardians are involved in their education. This is the basis for the principle that students and parents should be kept fully informed about the student’s progress.” ~ Growing Success, page 8.

We will be holding Parent-Teacher Interviews on Thursday, November 26th from 4:00 – 8:30 pm and Friday, November 27th from 9:15 am – 2:30 pm. This term, you will be able to schedule your Parent-Teacher Interviews online. Please refer to the email sent out with our school code.

You will be able to make appointments until November 23rd at 11:00 pm.  Teachers will be reaching out to parents to set up a virtual meeting or telephone meeting.

Parent – Teacher Interview Tips:

As a parent, you are your child’s first and most important teacher. St. Gregory the Great and our parent community have something in common: We both want your child to learn and do well. When parents and teachers talk to each other, each person can share important information about your child’s talents and needs. Each party can also learn something new about how to help your child. Parent–Teacher Interviews are a great way to start talking to your child’s teachers.

Here are some tips on ways that you can make the most of parent-teacher interview so that everyone benefits, especially your child.

  1. Interviews are a two-way conversation. Like all good conversations, parent–teacher interviews are best when both parties talk and listen. The conference is a time for you to learn about your child’s progress in school. This is also a time for the teacher to learn about what your child is like at home. When you tell the teacher about your child’s skills, interests, needs, and dreams, the teacher can help your child more.
  2. Keep the emphasis of the conversation on learning. Good parent–teacher interviews focus on how well the child is doing in school. They also talk about how the child can do even better. To get ready for the conversation, look at your child’s homework, tests, and notices before the interview. Be sure to bring a list of questions that you would like to ask the teacher.  Think about ways you would like to be further involved in your child’s learning so that you can discuss them with the teacher.
  3. Discuss opportunities and challenges for your child. Just like you, teachers want your child to succeed. You will probably hear positive feedback about your child’s progress and areas for improvement. Be prepared by thinking about your child’s strengths and challenges beforehand. Be ready to ask questions about ways you and the teacher can help your child with some of his or her challenges.

Peace Light from Bethlehem

This year, our Youth Group will be bringing the PEACE LIGHT FROM BETHLEHEM to Halton Region. The Peace Light is a flame that originated in the grotto of Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem where it has burned uninterrupted for more than 1,000 years. Each year it is passed around the world, not unlike the Olympic torch. Everyone is welcome to light a flame from the Peace Light to bring home and enjoy, and  share with others.
The Peace Light will be available to the public to light a flame on Saturday, December 12th from 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm at KelyNack Stables: 6391 Walkers Line, Burlington, ON L7M 0P7 (approx. 20 minutes from Mary Mother of God Parish).

Dress for the Weather

The cold weather has arrived! The best way to stay warm is to dress in layers, but when layers are removed, they often get lost! Please make sure that all of your children’s clothing is clearly labeled so that if it is lost, it can be returned to them. Also, we are outside for all recesses unless the temperature drops below -20 degrees Celsius, so make sure your children have dressed appropriately with mittens, hats, scarves, boots, and snow pants if necessary! Please note any information regarding bus cancellations or school closures will be posted on the Board Website:

As we navigate through this pandemic we have all realized how much we value and appreciate social connections. Reach out to someone important in your life and tell them how much they mean to you.
