Communication Bulletin – February 24, 2020

As we prepare to begin Lent, perhaps after a hearty dinner of pancakes on Shrove Tuesday, may we take time for extra prayer, particularly the Stations of the Cross, and various penances to overcome our weaknesses and to atone for our sins.

Pancake Tuesday – Rescheduled for Monday, February 24th

On Monday, February 24, 2020, the Catholic Parent Council of St. Gregory School will be serving pancakes in celebration of Shrove Tuesday. We will be purchasing products and taking the precautions associated with allergies in our school. Thank you to our Pancake Day volunteers.  We are in need of parent volunteers, if you can help us out we would love to have you! Please come to the main office by 8:30 a.m.

Come to the Table – Lenten Initiative

St Gregory School will be taking part in the Come to the Table Family Challenge for Lent, in partnership with the Mary Mother of God Parish. Come to the Table is an initiative whereby families are encouraged to pledge to commit to having technology-free meals as a family. The guidelines are simple… and fun!

  1. No electronics (including TV) during the meal.
  2. Say grace before the meal.
  3. No discussing discipline or chores, like who forgot to take out the garbage or didn’t do their homework.
  4. No one is excused until the whole family has been at the table for 20 minutes.
  5. The family meal can be any meal of the day, not just dinner.

In summary, families are encouraged to take 20 minutes to come together for a technology-free meal, 20 times over the period of Lent. Make it 20 meals for 20 mins in 2020! Be sure to follow us @StGregoryHCDSB as well as @gregory_we, where our school’s WE Team and Dream Team will be sharing fun conversation starters, different versions of Grace to be said as a family, and more over the period of Lent. Please see the attachments for more information on this 20 in 2020 Lenten Initiative.

Yard Supervision

As a reminder, supervision begins at 9:00 am. For the safety of your children, we request that your child NOT be on school property until a supervisor is on duty. Please see that your children leave home with ample time to ensure that they are on the schoolyard when the bell rings. If your child(ren) walk to school, please encourage them to use appropriate crosswalks and walkways. Establish routines at home that will assist your child to arrive on time. Please be aware that the volume of traffic in the parking lot increases significantly just prior to the entry bell. For safety, children arriving late for school must first report to the office. We encourage them to arrive on time and line with their class at 9:10 am.
