Communication Bulletin – December 9, 2019

Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called the children of God.

This weekend we light the second candle on the Advent Wreath. Peace with others begins as we understand that God has called us to be peacemakers in our world. Is there somewhere in your own world where you can be a peacemaker this Christmas? Don’t miss the blessing God promises in your life as you respond to His call to be a peacemaker in your own circle. We can help bring peace to our world one heart at a time.

The prayer of St. Francis calls us to be peacemakers.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light; and Where there is sadness, joy… Divine Master; Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love; For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.

Our Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectation (OCSGE)

Our Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectation (OCSGE) for December is being a Discerning Believer. A discerning believer is someone who participates in the sacramental life of the church and integrates faith with life. It is also someone who develops attitudes and values founded on Catholic social teaching and acts to promote social responsibility, human solidarity and the common good. We learned about what it means to be a discerning believer at our first Advent Liturgy by our intermediate students.

Twilight Mass

As we celebrate Advent, it is important to remind ourselves of the true meaning of Christmas. It is so easy to get buried in the hustle and bustle of Christmas shopping, cleaning, and preparations, that we forget to prepare our hearts for the true JOY that is Christmas. Advent is the season of anticipation for the coming of Christ into our hearts to renew us. But sometimes we need a little help to fully embrace the spirit of Advent. We are inviting our families, including GRANDPARENTS, to a very special Twilight Advent Mass on Tuesday, December 10th at 7:00 pm at Mary Mother of God Church!

Joy Day

Joy Day will be taking place on Wednesday, December 11th. Students will be engaged in Christmas activities throughout the day. Intermediate students will be visiting classes to share in the joy of the day. This will be a non-uniform pajama day and families are asked to make a donation to the charities that our school supports. Kindly make your donation on School Cash.

Dove Tree Collection

Just a reminder that Monday, December 9th, is the last day for the Dove Tree gift card collection. Many thanks to all the families that have already supported us, and the local families in need. Your generous donations are greatly appreciated.  We have collected just over $2000 in gift cards!

Dressing for the Weather

Please remember to send your children with warm clothing such as hats, mittens, boots, and snow pants. Even with the cold weather, we will be going outside as much as possible, and we want our students to be dressed appropriately to enjoy the outdoors. As well, please remember to send indoor shoes if you haven’t already done so.

Uniform Expectations

St. Gregory the Great is a uniform school. The sole provider for school uniforms, as per board policy, is ISW. As the weather has changed we have observed an increasing number of students not dressed in school uniform daily. Specifically,

  • Students wearing non-uniform tights or leggings
  • Students wearing non-uniform athletic pants

Please be aware that school staff are required to enforce the uniform policy by reporting non-compliance to school administration. Students not in uniform may be required to meet with school administration and a phone call home to provide appropriate uniform items may take place.

Your cooperation in this matter is appreciated.

We Are Excited to Welcome Your Child

Kindergarten registration for children in Year 1 (Junior Kindergarten) or children new to their school in Year 2 (Senior Kindergarten) is now open for the 2019-2020 school year!
