Advent is a time of preparation for the Christmas season. This year we will continue to help others to prepare their Christmas celebrations by collecting gift cards to support those in our Parish boundary, through the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul. The SVVP Angel Tree at Mary Mother of God serves over 90 families and 160 children in need within our parish boundary. The Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectation we are focusing on for December is being A Discerning Believer. A Discerning Believer develops attitudes and values founded on Catholic social teaching and acts to promote social responsibility, human solidarity, and the common good.
A Christmas tree has been placed in the Learning Commons where students will be able to hang ornaments to symbolize each gift they give. We are asking for gift card donations for Wal-Mart or Superstore. If you can contribute, your child may select one or more envelopes to take home. We ask that you purchase a gift card for that particular store and return it to school in that same envelope, at which point your child will be given an ornament to placed on the St. Gregory the Great Dove Tree.
Although $25 is the recommended amount, we will accept any amount. If you are giving more than $25, please do so in $25 increments. St Gregory will gratefully receive the Dove Tree donations from Monday, December 2nd to Monday, December 9th.
We are asking families to add a special daily prayer of protection for all of the families SSVP serves: Mother of Jesus, be their protector and defender against all that is harmful or evil. Bring their needs before our Father, that they may be surrounded by God’s Holy Angels, and give them the grace to conquer every danger and overcome all that would threaten their health and well-being. Amen.
Thank you for making “The Dove Tree” a successful part of our school’s Advent preparations. It is a beautiful occasion for our children to learn about the gifts of sharing and generosity
Halton Food For Thought:
In partnership with Halton Food for Thought (HFFT), our school provides our students with nutritious food and encourages healthy eating habits in our community via the Student Nutrition Program. The program is led by parent volunteers and is offered free of charge to all students.
At St. Gregory the Great, we offer a breakfast cart program on Thursday mornings that includes a minimum of three food groups, one always being a fresh fruit and/or vegetable as well as a milk alternative.
We always welcome your donations to keep the Student Nutrition Program running at our school. Donations can be made through the link provided: HFFT Donation
If you or someone you know is interested in volunteering at our school through the HFFT Student Nutrition Program, please contact us at the main office.
