Curbside Access for Return of Personal Belongings
Thank you for your continued patience as we complete week ten of Distance Learning. The HCDSB has completed the Elementary School Curbside Access for Student Belongings Protocol for Parents/Guardians – found below. Parents are asked to read the Protocol carefully and adhere to the guidelines during the process. We ask that you kindly begin considering which items you have at home that belong to the school such as library books, technology, team uniforms, and textbooks, and plan for their return. Please note that pick up/return dates and times will be during school hours on June 18, 22, 23, and 25. More details will be emailed to families this week.
Grade 8 Graduation 2020
Plans for Graduation for the 2019-2020 school year continue to develop. Although Graduation will not be a traditional ceremony and gathering, staff and parents are working together to ensure this milestone is recognized in a unique and special way due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A detailed outline specific to Graduation is attached below and will be emailed to all Grade 8 families early this week. Please note the outline is subject to change before the date. If changes are necessary, they will be communicated to parents via email.
Spirit Day – “Show off your Pet Day”
Friday, June 12th will be “Show off your Pet” Spirit Day. Show your school spirit by posting photos of you and your pets. If you do not have a pet, feel free to show off your favourite stuffed animal. Families are asked to post their photos on Twitter and to tag @stgabrielhcdsb @hcdsb #TogetherApartHCDSB and on Instagram at st.gabrielhcdsb. As a school, St. Gabriel CES is dedicated to having a Spirit Day every Friday for the duration of the school year!
Medical Perils – Returning Students
For students with medical conditions and allergies, the Student Plan of Care will not be sent home this year in June. They will continue as they are. Upon returning to school, the Student Plan of Care will then be sent home to parents. If changes are required, they can be made prior to school beginning. Thank you for your attention to this.

Literacy and Math Summer Programs for Grades 6, 7, and 8 students
The Halton Catholic District School Board’s Thomas Merton Centre for Continuing Education is pleased to be offering Literacy and Math Summer Programs for Grades 6, 7, and 8 students from July 6 – July 17, 2020 (Session 1) and July 20 – July 31, 2020 (Session 2).
Please note that due to the current COVID-19 situation, the health and well-being of our students continues to remain our highest priority. All Session 1 and Session 2 classes will be offered in a distance (e-learning) format this summer.
NOTE: Teachers will be committed to providing an engaging educational experience and interactive lessons in a virtual format to review the past school year, in preparation for next year. Educators will provide live and/or pre-recorded lessons for all students.
For program details, please review the following information sheet: Literacy and Math Distance Learning Summer Programs
This two-week summer program is designed for students who would benefit from additional practice and assistance to ease their transition into Grade 7, 8 & 9. Students will participate in engaging lessons to meet their individual needs and learning styles.
Students can be initially engaged in reading by focusing on their comprehension and enjoyment of a given story, poem, blog, or news report. Fundamentally, balanced literacy revolves around two primary strands, are a reading strand and a writing strand, each of which mirrors the other. Engaging lessons will be provided to ensure all students’ needs and learning styles are met.
New this year ~ online registration is available for Session 1 and 2. You may register your child for one or both sessions by filling out the following online form: Summer Distance Learning
The online form to register your child is due by Friday, June 26, 2020.
