Each one of us is called to be an artisan of peace, by uniting and not dividing, by extinguishing hatred and not holding on to it, by opening paths to dialogue and not by constructing new walls!

Virtual Curriculum Night

As has been our board’s long standing practice, our annual Curriculum Night will proceed this year in a virtual format on Wednesday, October 28, 2020. Parents / guardians are invited to join your child’s classroom teacher via a Microsoft Teams meeting link that will be posted in your child’s D2L course. Full details of our Virtual Curriculum Night can be found here.

Hallowe’en Costumes

We look forward to celebrating Hallowe’en with our students on October 30, 2020. While our observance of Hallowe’en make look different this year, we still invite our students to wear a costume, or orange and black clothing, on this day. Due to COVID-19 safety protocols within the school, costume props and masks cannot be brought or worn to school this day. While we want to enjoy the day, we still must follow Public Health protocols by wearing masks and exercising appropriate hand hygiene.

At St. Francis of Assisi School we strive to ensure that our students see themselves and their classmates reflected in their studies. Our students and families should expect their interactions within our school community to leave them feeling accepted for who they are. We encourage everyone to reflect critically and be mindful of cultural appropriation as you select a Halloween costume. Please review our full website post on Hallowe’en costume expectations here: https://elem.hcdsb.org/stfrancis/2020/10/equity-and-inclusive-education-halloween-costume-selection/

Hallowe’en Treats

A reminder that we encourage our students to celebrate the spirit and fun of Halloween, however we cannot accept any food or candy items at schoolThank you for your understanding.

Student Agendas

Agendas have been distributed to each classroom. The agenda is a tool used to support each student’s personal organization. The agenda has been previously used as a communication tool between home and school, however, parents / guardians are asked to continue using the class D2L site, phone messages, or email to communicate with your child’s teacher rather than the agenda. This safety practice is in place to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Your understanding is appreciated.

The Use of Technology at School

When relevant to curriculum and instruction, teachers may permit the use of any board owned or personal electronic device in a manner that meets the current policy as a classroom learning device, and to develop competency with the following learning strategies:

  • Becoming a Digital Citizen;
  • Understand Technology Operations and Concepts;
  • Creativity and Innovation;
  • Research and Information Fluency;
  • Communication and Collaboration;
  • Critical Thinking, Problem Solving and Decision Making

In the event that a student needs to contact their parent, they can do so, with teacher permission and supervision, using their own cell phone. However, we kindly ask that parents / guardians refrain from attempting to contact their child during the day through their child’s cell phone. In the event of a family emergency, the appropriate method to contact your child during the school day is through the school office.
