Bus Transportation Information

Hello and welcome to Halton Student Transportation Services (HSTS)!

Who is HSTS?
HSTS is a student transportation consortium owned by the Halton District School Board and the Halton Catholic District School Board.  HSTS contracts the services of the local bus companies to provide home-to-school bus transportation for students who are eligible for transportation, based on the school boards’ Transportation Policy.

Do I have to sign up for my child to receive school bus transportation?
Students in grades JK-8, who reside greater than 1.6 km from their primary home address to their board designated school, qualify for and are automatically assigned bussing.  The bus stop your child(ren) will be assigned to in September will be the bus stop closest to the primary home address the school was given when your child(ren) was registered.

What if my child isn’t going to use the bus?
If your child(ren) will not require transportation to and/or from school, please inform us by completing the Opt Out Form.  By completing the Opt Out Form, your child’s name will be removed from the bus list that is provided to the school and your child’s transportation information will be removed.  If you require transportation be reinstated in the future, you must inform your child’s school that your child will now require transportation.  Please don’t forget to provide school staff with the date your child(ren) would like to start using the bus.  School staff will inform HSTS staff of the date your  child(ren) will require transportation.  HSTS staff will assign your child(ren) to the bus stop that is closest to your home.  Please provide at least 5 business days’ notice as changes may impact other students that ride the bus.

What if my child is going to a daycare provider?
If your child(ren) require transportation to/from a different bus stop that is within the transportation area for the school for daycare purposes, please follow the process outlined in HSTS Operating Procedure HS-3-005 Transportation To/From Caregivers and Daycare Providers  Please email any request for alternate bus stop locations for daycare purposes no later than August 2nd to  HSTS staff will update your child’s bus stop to ensure they are assigned to your requested location before school starts in September.   This will also ensure the bus identification tag they receive on the first day of school contains the correct drop off location.

Can you please tell me more about the bus identification tag?
Your child’s school will be provided with a bus identification tag (yellow with a smiley face) that school staff will affix to your child’s backpack on the first day of school.  You may also receive a separate school specific bus tag.  The tag from HSTS will identify the afternoon bus route number and bus stop location which will assist school staff when loading students on the buses at the end of the school day.  It also serves as a visual indicator for the bus drivers to identify which students are in kindergarten.

How do I find out my child(ren)’s transportation schedule?
Student Transportation Schedules will be finalized the week of August 19th. For new Junior and Senior Kindergarten students, HSTS will mail you a letter in late August with your child(ren)’s transportation details which will include the bus stop time, bus stop location and bus route number.

For returning Senior Kindergarten students please visit click on the Student Transportation tab on the top of the main page, then click on Student Transportation Schedules.  You will need your child’s 9 digit Ontario Education Number (OEN) to view the transportation details for your child.  At the same time you can also sign up to receive bus delay email notifications; the link is located on the same page

Did you know, some of the buses are shared with schools?
Some buses are shared with more than one school in the morning and/or afternoon.  Please ensure your child is aware there may be additional school stops prior to their school.  Parents should ensure their child understands which school is theirs and is familiar with the area.
