April 5, 2019 Update

“Put service and mission first, and you will see that everything else will follow.  We experience a different kind of joy from having had the opportunity to work side by side with others in achieving a shared dream. You could have easily chosen to do other things, but you wanted to be involved.”
– Pope Francis, World Youth Day Panama –

April 15-21, 2019 is National Volunteer Week across Canada.  As this is also Holy Week, we recognize and thank all of our school volunteers next week.  Volunteering is a selfless act; a person gives their time, skills, experience, and passion to help others, without expecting anything in return.  At St. Francis of Assisi School, we are extremely grateful for all of the volunteers who give so generously of their time to help serve our school community.  On behalf of the students and staff – thank you!

Our Focus on Faith theme for the month of April is Community and the Common Good, with the essential question of “Who is the Holy Spirit?”.  You can learn more about this month’s theme here:  Community and the Common Good;

Do you have a child that will be turning 4 years old by December 31, 2019?  If so, it’s not too late to register your child for Kindergarten for the 2019-2020 school year.  You can learn more about the process here:  Kindergarten Registration.  For those parents who have already registered their child for kindergarten, a reminder that our Kindergarten Orientation Night will take place on Thursday, April 25, 2019 beginning at 6:30pm;

On Wednesday, May 22, Thursday, May 23, and Monday, May 27, 2019, our grade 3 and 6 students will be taking part in the Provincial Assessment of Reading, Writing and Mathematics, Primary Division (Grades 1-3), or Junior Division (Grades 4–6). This assessment is administered to all Grade 3 and 6 students in Ontario’s publicly funded school system by the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO), an independent agency of the Government of Ontario.  We advise you of these dates well in advance and appreciate you scheduling any appointments for your child outside of these dates. Thank you in advance for your efforts to accommodate this request.
