November 30, 2018 Update

This weekend we celebrate the arrival of the season of Advent, which also marks the beginning of the liturgical year. Advent is a season of devout and joyful expectation. Its four Sundays highlight our desire and longing for peace, justice and unity. While Advent expresses the deep longing of all humanity for God, it also celebrates the three-fold coming of the Lord by:

  • Remembering the events that surrounded the Lord’s coming long ago;
  • Celebrating his coming among us today, and;
  • Looking forward to his final coming in glory;

A few updates for next week:

  • Thank you to all families who have participated in our Christmas Gift Giving Tree.  A reminder that all gift card donations are due to the office on Monday, December 3, 2018.   All collected gift cards will be donated to Halton Women’s Place to support women and children in need;

  • Our grade 4 students will lead us in prayer during our monthly liturgy on Monday, December 3, 2018 at 11:00am.  You can learn about the December Focus:  Option for the Poor and Vulnerable here.  As always, all are welcome to join us for our liturgy;

  • On Tuesday, December 4, 2018 all families are invited to celebrate Advent Family Mass at Holy Cross Parish beginning at 7:00pm;

  • On Wednesday, December 5, 2018 beginning at 6:30pm our school will host our annual Christmas Family Night.  Tickets for our Christmas Basket Raffle to support Holy Cross HELPS are now available.  Students may purchase these during the day at school, or during our Christmas Family Night.  Tickets are $1.00 each;

  • The Public Health Agency of Canada has issued a Public Health Notice to avoid eating romaine lettuce due to a link with an E. coli outbreak. We wanted to let you know that we will not be serving any type of lettuce, only spinach, in our salad bar at school until this advisory has been lifted;

  • A reminder to all students and families that riding the bus to and from school is a privilege, and considered to be an extension of the school day.  As such, students are expected to conduct themselves in accordance with the policies of the Halton Catholic District School Board, and the Halton Student Transportation Services. Assemblies will be held with all bus students next week to remind them of the school and board behaviour expectations while riding the the bus;
