November 22, 2018 Update

As a parent, you are your child’s first and most important teacher. St. Francis of Assisi School and our parent community have something in common: We both want your child to learn and do well.  As such, we are looking forward to great conversations and collaboration this evening, and tomorrow, during our Progress Report and Kindergarten Communication of Learning interviews.

A few items to note for the upcoming week:

    • Friday, November 23, 2018 is a Professional Development Day.  Classes will not be held, and teachers will be engaged in Progress Report and Kindergarten Communication of Learning interviews;
    • Attendance at School Matters!  St. Francis of Assisi School is dedicated to helping your son or daughter develop the spiritual, intellectual, aesthetic, emotional, social and physical capabilities to live fully and to meet the future challenges of adult roles and responsibilities.  The school can best contribute to your child’s education and development when you form a partnership with them, and ensure that your child attends school regularly.  You can learn more about our school’s expectations with regards to attendance here:  Attendance Matters;
    • Our Christmas tree has been placed in our front foyer. Paper Angel Ornaments have been hung from the tree, with specific gift card suggestions printed on them. If you are interested in participating, a family member may select one or more Angel Ornaments. We ask that you purchase the suggested gift card and return it to the school with the original paper angel ornament that you or your child has selected from the tree.  All collected gift cards will be donated to Halton Women’s Place to support women and children in need. Thank you for your consideration;
    • Families are reminded of the following winter dress expectations of our school.  For children in Kindergarten, full winter wear including boots, snow pants, etc. should be brought to school at all times.  For children in grades 1 through 6, full winter wear is also recommended, however, any child who wishes to access the field is required to be wearing snow pants and boots.  For children in grades 7 and 8, snow pants are not required, however, if these students wish to access the field, they must also be wearing boots. Your support is appreciated;
    • On Tuesday, December 4, 2018 all families are invited to celebrate Advent Family Mass at Holy Cross Parish beginning at 7:00pm;
    • On Wednesday, December 5, 2018 beginning at 6:30pm our school will host our annual Christmas Family Night.  Information regarding this event has been sent home to each family.  For those wishing to attend, the associated cost is $20 and includes gingerbread ornaments to decorate, a cookie for each family member, and a Christmas picture.  Please register via School Cash Online, the deadline to register is Wednesday, November 28, 2018;
    • As many families may know, we are currently without a full time French as a Second Language Teacher for our grade 4/5, 5/6, 6, 7, 7/8 and 8 classes.  Your patience and understanding with this situation is appreciated.  Please know that the board continues to actively recruit French language teachers, and is working to place an instructor in our school as soon as possible.  Please feel free to contact Mr. Witter should you have any questions or concerns;
