School Weekly Update June 1, 2020

“If we have no peace it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.” ~Mother Teresa

Welcome June and praying for peace and acceptance in the world.

Thank you for your continued patience as we complete week eight of Distance Learning. Staff continue to enhance their skills and have been asked to experiment with different strategies that are asynchronous and synchronous teaching methods to support student learning and engagement. Please check the announcement page of the online classroom platform for opportunities.

Student Belongings- We have been working together with Public Health, The Ministry of Education and the HCDSB to prepare a plan to retrieve student belongings which will take place during the last week of June. Information will be shared this week on the specifics of the plan.

National Accessibility Week – Show Us How You Roll!

National AccessAbility Week is from Sunday, May 31 to Saturday, June 6, 2020.  Red Shirt Day is an Easter Seals initiative that takes place on the Wednesday of National AccessAbility Week each year.

This will be our Covid Time Capsule community collaboration for the week: wear red Wednesday and “show us how you roll” to celebrate awareness and support. Together we can create a visible display of solidarity and show support for persons who are living with disabilities, and their commitment to helping to create a fully accessible and inclusive society that honours and values the contributions of people of all abilities in all aspects of life in Canada.

We are proud of the recent accessibility upgrades that have been made to St. Elizabeth Seton School. On Wednesday, June 3rd, 2020, send pics to Mrs. Williams @ williamsk@hcdsb.org or post a selfie/family photo on Twitter wearing red and “Show us how you roll!”  @SetonSt   #TogetherApartHCDSB , #RedForAccessAbility, #unstoppABLE

Join the 24 Hour Fast – June 3-4

Thank you for your consideration, support and generosity!

St. Elizabeth Seton is joining the Halton Catholic Children’s Education Foundation (HCCEF) in the 24Hour Fast on June 3-4 to raise awareness for students in need. The fast can include Food, Electronics, Social Media, Sugar, or something else.  Donate to our team: https://www.canadahelps.org/s/xxNQ6

As a team, we are fasting to help us to connect to our neighbours who are in need – people who are forced to fast by their poverty. Please be kind, be generous and sponsor one of us for the HCCEF 24 Hour Fast.

Seton’s Got Talent- Talent

We would like to invite any students wishing to share their talents with our community for this year’s digital version of the St. Elizabeth Seton Talent Show. Students can sing, dance, play an instrument, perform a gymnastics routine, tell jokes, do magic, or share any other particular talent they may have. This is another opportunity to connect together apart for our community!

We can’t wait to be entertained!  Here is what you need to know:

  1. Students from Kindergarten to grade 8 can participate.
  2. If you are interested in submitting a video please email Mrs. Soares at soaresam@hcdsb.org and she will email you a link to upload your video. You will need to submit using a Gmail account; All students have a school Google account ending in @eliz.myhcdsb.org if you wish to use it.
  3. All talent show submissions should be less than 2mins.
  4. All costumes and songs must be school appropriate and may not contain any offensive content or language.
  5. Lip-syncing is not permitted.
  1. Due to social distancing rules, we will only accept individual acts.  The only exception would be for submissions from siblings in the same home that are students currently registered at St. Elizabeth Seton School.
  2. All submissions must be in by Wednesday, June 10, 2020 with your parent(s) permission.
  3. The number of acts admitted to the final show will depend on the number of submissions that are received.  We may not be able to accept everyone for the talent show; you will only be contacted if your video has been selected.

Send in your videos as soon as they are done and be creative as possible. Parents Please Note: by submitting a video for the talent show, you give St. Elizabeth CES permission to post your child’s performance on the St. Elizabeth Seton YouTube channel for anyone to access/view. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Ms. Soares at soaresam@hcdsb.org or Mrs. Williams at williamsk@hcdsb.org

We are looking forward to seeing everyone’s amazing talent this year!
