The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members. ~ Coretta Scott King

First Week Back!

It has been a great first week back to school. We welcomed many new students and staff to our school community. We remind students that “Every Day Matters!” and daily attendance is of the utmost importance. Below are a few information items for the startup of 2019:

Yard Supervision

Supervision begins at 8:25 am. For the safety of your children, we request that your child NOT be on school property until a supervisor is on duty. For safety, please see that your children leave home with ample time to ensure that they are in the schoolyard when the bell rings. Encourage your children to use appropriate crosswalks and walkways. Establish routines at home that will assist your child to arrive on time. Please be aware that the volume of traffic in the parking lot increases significantly just prior to the entry bell.  Children arriving late for school must first report to the office for a late slip. We would like them to be in line with their class at 8:40 am.

Safe and Caring School Assemblies

Students from grades 1-8 gathered to review the school routines and expectations that help keep everyone safe and learning at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic School. We reminded students that we all must “follow the Golden Rule- treat others the way we want to be treated” and “always choose kind”. The Code of Conduct is in front of the student agenda for more information. Please review and discuss this with your children.

CHRISTMAS MUSICAL – AUDITION INFORMATION

Calling all Grade 4-8 students interested in auditioning to be part of the main cast for this year’s Christmas Musical! Auditions will be held on Tuesday, September 17. *** For the audition, students please prepare a poem, psalm, monologue, skit, or short story to perform that showcases your acting ability. This year there are a few roles that include singing opportunities. If students would like to be considered for one of these roles, students also should prepare a song to sing acapella (without music). There are no dance auditions, please.

Please fill out the audition form available on Monday and hand it into the office by Friday, September 13th. HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE! BEST OF LUCK TO ALL AUDITIONING!

PA Day

Please note that Monday, September 16th is a Professional Activity Day. There is no school for students on that day

Catholic School Council Nominations

Role of Catholic School Council:  Ontario Regulation 612 states that every school must hold elections for the School Council within the first 30 days of each school year. The term of office is one year.  We want to encourage every parent to consider volunteering to sit on the Catholic School Council this year.  The school needs active and interested parents to maintain the quality of the school community we enjoy and to address the challenges the community will face in the future.  Nomination forms are available at the front office.

If Elections are required, then the names of candidates and a one-page information biography sheet, if available, will be posted on the School Community Bulletin Board located in the front entrance of the school.  This year, elections for our 2018/2019 Catholic School Council will take place in September according to the following timelines:

  • Nomination Forms Due:  Friday, September 13th
  • Profiles Due (if required): Tuesday, September 17th
  • Council Elections (if needed): Tuesday, September 24th
  • First Council Meeting:  Wednesday, October 9th at 6:30 pm

All parents are welcome to attend regular Catholic School Council meetings.  Meeting dates will be posted on our school web page.  The meetings will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will be held in the Library Learning Commons.

Family Information Packages

We have sent home our Family Information/Consent Form and the Registration Verification form. Please complete and return the Family Information /Consent Form to the school as soon as possible. We need to have up to date information in order to contact you in the case of an emergency

Curriculum Night – A Celebration of Learning

We hope you to see you at Curriculum Night on Thursday, September 19th  beginning at 6:30 pm with a gathering in the gym and then classroom visits begin shortly after. We look forward to seeing you!

Grade 7 Immunizations

All Grade 7 students will be offered vaccines through school-based immunization clinics again this year. The Region of Halton Health Department administers this voluntary immunization program. All forms are due to the school office by Thursday, September 12th.  The first scheduled date is Thursday, October 3rd will be Hep B and HPV-9 for those participating.

Concussion Protocol

Recent research shows that a concussion can have very serious implications on a child`s cognitive and physical abilities. Parents and guardians are reminded that a comprehensive protocol, based on current research and best practices, has been developed to help parents, students, and staff prevent, recognize, and respond to a concussion. More information, including a Parent Fact Sheet, can be found on the Board`s website at https://www.hcdsb.org/Parents/safeandhealthy/Medical/Documents/Concussion Fact Sheet for Parents.pdf

Promoting Well-Being

You can promote self-esteem with children by letting them take small risks. Building confidence is all about your children clearing small hurdles—on their own. That means you should not rush in every time you think your kid needs help.
