Weekly Update – January 11th – 15th

Together Apart – Thank you St. Dominic Community!
We would like to start our update this week by extending a big thank you to our entire community – staff, parents and students for your patience as we prepared for and started our new period of remote learning. We saw challenges already with internet providers and other technical glitches beyond our control. We thank you for your continued support and patience. We continue to also say thank you to our entire staff for their efforts over the past couple of weeks! It was great to see everyone back, even if it was online!

Support During School Closure:
As we continue to see further restrictions, similar to what we experienced in the spring, our day-to-day lives become more difficult. We want to let our entire community know that we are here to support you if needed. If you find yourself in crisis or in need of support in any way, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s classroom teacher, Mrs. Durand or Mr. Chininea. You can contact us at any point in time.
Attendance During Remote Learning:
During this period of remote learning, we continue to promote regular attendance, as it is important for students to remain engaged in their learning so they can stay on top of the curriculum and feel more connected to their peers while our school is closed. The Ministry of Education mandates that schools take daily student attendance throughout the period of remote learning.
Attendance will be taken twice daily: once in the morning and again after lunch. If your child is not able to attend or participate in remote learning on any given day, please report his or her absence, as you typically would during in-person learning through the SchoolMessenger Safe Arrival System: We will be following our usual process of contacting parents and guardians when student absences are not reported. 
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Now, more than ever, ongoing communication between home and school is key to your child’s success and well-being. 
Extended School Closure (Jan. 11th – 22nd) & Remote Learning:
Due to the extended school closures, we will be continuing with remote learning for the next two school weeks. We will continue to follow our regular school schedule (please see below), with recess/lunch breaks and subjects covered by various teachers (French, Science, Phys Ed, Arts, etc.) to remain at their usual times. Please continue to follow the posted schedule provided by your child’s classroom teacher.
Start of day/ online learning – 8:20 a.m. (Attendance taken)
Morning  Recess/Break – As per homeroom teacher schedules
Lunch – 11:25 a.m. – 12:25 p.m. (Attendance taken after lunch)
Afternoon Recess/Break – As per homeroom teacher schedules
Dismissal/End of online learning – 2:50 p.m.

We are now scheduled to return to the building on Monday, January 25th, 2021. Any updates from the Ministry of Education will be provided from the Board as soon as they released.
For families who opted in December to make a change to their child’s current learning environment, (transition from face-to-face to virtual or vice versa), the transition is now scheduled to take place on Monday, January 25th.
Remote Learning and Online Learning Platforms:
Remote learning will be provided for all students in accordance with PPM 164: Requirements for Remote Learning, which provides specific expectations around synchronous learning.

Behaviour Expectations for Students:
Students are expected to follow our code of conduct, and expectations will remain the same during remote learning. We want to continue with our daily message of treating each other as Jesus taught us to – with Dignity, Kindness & Respect. Please click here to review behaviour expectations.

We are now accepting new kindergarten registrations for the next school year. Please click here to read more details from our homepage. Please note that review and confirmation of documentation will take place in person when schools reopen.
Catholic School Council Meeting Postponed:
Please note that our Catholic School Council virtual meeting that was scheduled to take place tomorrow night will now place on Monday, January 25th.


Keeping Our School & Community Healthy & Safe:
The province is now in a formal shutdown, with measures in place for all individuals. Please see below for reminders and click here to review all guidelines and measures outlined by the provincial government.

Stay home, except for essential purposes such as going to work or school, buying essentials such as groceries, and attending medical appointments. Maintain a physical distance of two metres (six feet) from those outside their household. Those that live alone may join one designated household. Avoid all social gatherings such as play dates, birthday parties, and dinner parties with friends or family.
COVID-19 Test Results:
·       If any member of your immediate family tests positive for COVID-19, all members of the family must stay home and self-isolate, even if they have no symptoms. Please follow the direction of Halton Public Health.
