Weekly Update – Jan. 4th – 8th

Welcome Back & Happy New Year!

God of this New Year, we are walking into mystery. We face the future, not knowing what the days or months will bring to us or how we will respond.
Be love in us as we journey. May we welcome all who come our way. Deepen our faith to see all of life through Your eyes.
Fill us with hope and an abiding trust that You dwell in us amidst all our joys and sorrows. Thank You for the treasure of our faith life. Thank You for the gift of being able to rise each day with the assurance of Your walking through the day with us. God of this New Year, we praise You.

School Closure (Jan. 4th-8th) & Remote Learning:
Due to the school closures this week, we will be engaging in online learning for the first week of January. On Monday, January 4th, students will engage in asynchronous (independent) activities for the morning and will have a (synchronous) live meetings with their educators in the afternoon (to begin at 12:30 pm).
Beginning on Tuesday, January 5th, we will generally follow our regular school schedule (please see below), including a start time of 8:20 AM for individual classes. You can expect recess/lunch breaks and subjects covered by various teachers (French, Science, Phys Ed, Arts, etc.) to occur at their usual times. Your child’s classroom teacher will provide this information as per their usual schedule.

St. Dominic School Hours (Period of Remote Learning):
Start of day/ online learning – 8:20 a.m.
Morning  Recess/Break – As per homeroom teacher schedules
Lunch – 11:25 a.m. – 12:25 p.m.
Afternoon Recess/Break – As per homeroom teacher schedules
Dismissal/End of online learning – 2:50 p.m.

We appreciate your ongoing patience and support as we move to this new model of instruction. For more information about how to support your child’s learning at home, please refer to: Jan. 4th – Remote Learning Guidelines and Support.

At this current time, we are scheduled to return to the building on Monday, January 11, 2021. Any updates from the Ministry of Education will be provided from the Board as soon as they released.
For families who opted in December to make a change to their child’s current learning environment, (transition from face-to-face to virtual or vice versa), the transition is still scheduled to take place on Monday, January 11th.

We once again thank all staff for their time and effort in preparing for this shift in practice!
Learning Platforms for Remote Learning:
There are three platforms that our teachers are using – Office 365, Google Classroom and D2L. Your children should be familiar with their educators’ platforms and they should know their Usernames and Passwords to log in.
Links to these three platforms are here:
D2L Brightspace
Google Classroom
Office 365
If your child does not know their Username or Password, you can contact your child’s teacher on Monday morning and they will provide it to you.
If you have any technical difficulties with your child’s learning platform (e.g. your child’s username or password do not work) please contact your child’s teacher; if they are not able to help you, you can contact our Board’s HelpDesk: Contact our HCDSB Help Desk for Remote Learners
Communication During Remote Learning:
Our office staff will be working remotely when possible and at the school. Therefore, we may not directly respond to all calls. In the event your call is missed, messages will be checked and we will make every effort to respond promptly. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the school or email our office staff (please see below).
