A Prayer for Unity
God of love and justice, St. Paul proclaimed that “there is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” May we be emboldened by your living Word to rid the world of the sin of discrimination in our attitudes and actions. Help us to seek the unity that Paul saw so clearly so that all forms of injustice will cease. Grant us the courage and determination to be prophets of peace. May we welcome one another as brothers and sisters, rooted in your everlasting love. Amen.
Black History Month 2021 Begins
The month of February in Canada is dedicated to honouring and celebrating the contributions of many Black Canadians who have shaped our country to make it what it is today. At St. Dominic Catholic School, we will continue with our theme of “Celebrating Each Other’s Differences” by engaging students in classroom activities and presentations throughout the month of February. We will also emphasize the themes of unity and love this month, as we celebrate Valentine’s Day and participate in the beginning of the liturgical season of Lent.
Local Love Day/Paint the Town Red Day – United Way Halton:
On February 12th, 2021 we will join our school board and region in celebrating “Local Love Day/Paint the Town Red Day” for the United Way (Halton). The need to support many in our community continues to increase, especially during this pandemic. Students are asked to wear red for this spirit day and families can make an optional small donation through our Cash Online program. The event will open next Sunday afternoon (the 7th), so please keep an eye out for that email!
Important – Winter Water Safety
The safety and well-being of our students and families is always our greatest priority, and we work closely with our partners to share important information to help keep our community safe.
As the province-wide lockdown continues and families are exploring ways to stay active outdoors, the risk of water-related incidents are increasing.
Conservation Halton and the four municipalities in Halton have issued some important reminders and water safety tips to help keep our families safe during the winter months.
Some of these measure include:
-Keep family members and pets away from all bodies of water.
-Don’t follow pets or people on the ice or attempt to rescue – call 911 for assistance.
-Avoid recreational activities in or around waterways and check with your local municipality for alternative outdoor skating opportunities.
Recreation of any kind is not permitted on stormwater management ponds. These areas can be very dangerous and should be avoided at all times.
Please take a few minutes to share these important reminders with your children. For more information, please read the joint News Release.
