School Update – Week of December 6 – 10, 2021

Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations

This year, we are focusing on The Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations as a school community.  Each month a student from each class will be chosen who represents the OCGE of the month.  One award per class will be given for the student who demonstrates these traits.

For December, we will focus on the OCGE of being a Reflective, Creative, Holistic Thinker.  A reflective, creative, holistic thinker solves problems and makes responsible decisions with an informed moral conscience for the common good.

Family Advent Mass

We are pleased to be able to celebrate at Holy Cross Parish for our annual Advent mass in person this year. Mass will take place on December 9th at 7 p.m. We look forward to welcoming those who can attend to celebrate in joyful hope during the Advent season.

Gingerbread Houses

Thank you to those who purchased gingerbread houses this year.

The gingerbread houses will be distributed through a ‘curbside pick-up’ on December 8th from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. or 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. If you would like your gingerbread house sent home with your child, please call, and let the office know. If not, please buzz at the front office door between 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. or 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.

Poinsettia Pick-Up

For those who ordered poinsettias, they can be picked up on December 8th from 9:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Please buzz at the front office door and your order will be delivered to you.

Joy Day

As a school, we will celebrate our ‘Joy Day’ this Friday, December 10th. Students are encouraged to wear red, white and/or green if they choose to. Students will have the opportunity to play virtual Christmas BINGO and participate in fun classroom-based activities.

Christmas Spirit Week

During the final week before the holidays, December 13th – 17th, we will be having theme days for our Christmas spirit week.

Monday, December 13th: Christmas Sock Day

Tuesday, December 14th: Christmas Accessory Day

Wednesday, December 15th: Polar Express Day

Thursday, December 16th: Christmas Sweater Day

Friday, December 17th: Christmas P.J. Day

Photo Retakes

Photo retakes have been scheduled for December 13th. Due to Edge Imaging’s closure over the Christmas holidays, photo proofs from retake day will not be available until the new year.

Hot Lunch Programs

Please note, you can continue to place orders for the coming weeks. See the attached letter for further information regarding ordering:

LBSCO Program Intro Letter – St. Brigid CS, Georgetown 21-22.pdf

Gluten-free options are available to order online as well.

Please note that if you know you will be away to cancel your order through Lunch Box ahead of time.  The sorting and delivery of pizza is a large undertaking for our office staff and delivering pizza to the door is an added challenge during the lunch hour.  We appreciate your understanding.

If you have any questions, please contact the office.

Bus Student Seating

Please be reminded that students have been assigned seats on both their morning and afternoon bus routes.  Students have been told their seats at the beginning of the school year and reminded throughout the year if changes occur.

We would ask that you go onto the following link for HSTS to check for your child’s seat on each bus and remind them of their seat numbers.  The seat they sit on in the morning will not necessarily be the same seat at the end of the day.

It is very important that students sit in their assigned seats.  If there is a COVID-19 situation whereby the bus is involved, we use the seating charts to do contact tracing and determine those affected, therefore ensuring your child knows their seat is critical.

Daily COVID Screening

Parents/guardians/students must complete the Ontario School Screening Tool each morning prior to or upon arrival for each student.  Students will no longer be required to show/provide their classroom teacher confirmation of screening daily.

Screening Tool: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/

Students only attend school if a “✅” is obtained.   Students with COVID-like symptoms or who receive an “X” indicating “Do not go to school” must remain home and isolate as instructed.

Holy Cross Parish

Please visit the Holy Cross website for more information on the children’s liturgy offered online during the weekend.

The weekend mass schedule is:

Saturday 5 p.m.

Sunday 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 12:00 p.m.
