School Update – Week of Novemeber 29 – December 3, 2021

Advent

This weekend we celebrate the arrival of the season of Advent, which also marks the beginning of the liturgical year. Advent is a season of joyful preparation for the Birth of Christ at Christmas. Advent is a season of hope and of longing, of joyful expectation. In the words of Pope Francis, “Advent is the time to welcome the Lord who comes to meet us, the time to look ahead, and to prepare ourselves for Christ’s return.” Many symbols and traditions are associated with Advent. Perhaps the best-known symbol is the Advent Wreath.  The light of the candles signifies the light of Christ, Who will come into the world at Christmas. As we prepare for Christmas, let us be reminded that we are called to be a light to others, to radiate love, goodness, and compassion to all we meet.

PRAYER FOR ADVENT

As you light your candle(s) for each week of Advent invite all who gather to share in this prayer:
God, Send your light into our hearts and fill us with joy,
as we prepare for the birth of your Son.
Transform our lives into images of Jesus
so that your light will shine through us.
Lord, fill the world with your peace, hope and love this Advent.
Amen.

Advent Family Mass

We are pleased to be able to celebrate at Holy Cross Parish for our annual Advent mass in person this year. Mass will take place on December 9th at 7 p.m. We look forward to welcoming those who can attend and celebrating in joyful hope during the Advent season.

Gingerbread House Pick-Up

The gingerbread houses will be distributed through a ‘curbside pick-up’ on December 8th both throughout the day and after school. More details to follow with times.

Poinsettia Pick-Up

The poinsettias will be distributed through a ‘curbside pick-up’ on December 8th, throughout the day. More details to follow with details next week.

Parent-Teacher Interviews

Thank you for your participation in parent-teacher conferences this week. We know that when students, parents and educators work together, student achievement and well-being is enhanced! We look forward to continued communication and collaboration throughout the school year.

Photo Retakes

Photo retakes have been scheduled for December 13th. Due to Edge Imaging’s closure over the Christmas holidays, photo proofs from retake day will not be available until the new year.

Hot Lunch Programs

Please note, you can continue to place orders for the coming weeks. See the attached letter for further information regarding ordering:

LBSCO Program Intro Letter – St. Brigid CS, Georgetown 21-22.pdf

Gluten-free options are available to order online as well.

Please note that if you know you will be away to cancel your order through Lunch Box ahead of time.  The sorting and delivery of pizza is a large undertaking for our office staff and delivering pizza to the door is an added challenge during the lunch hour.  We appreciate your understanding.

If you have any questions, please contact the office.

Bus Student Seating

Please be reminded that students have been assigned seats on both their morning and afternoon bus routes.  Students have been told their seats at the beginning of the school year and reminded throughout the year if changes occur.

We would ask that you go onto the following link for HSTS to check for your child’s seat on each bus and remind them of their seat numbers.  The seat they sit on in the morning will not necessarily be the same seat at the end of the day.

It is very important that students sit in their assigned seats.  If there is a COVID-19 situation whereby the bus is involved, we use the seating charts to do contact tracing and determine those affected, therefore ensuring your child knows their seat is critical.

Daily COVID Screening

Parents/guardians/students must complete the Ontario School Screening Tool each morning prior to or upon arrival for each student.  Students will no longer be required to show/provide their classroom teacher confirmation of screening daily.

Screening Tool: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/

Students only attend school if a “✅” is obtained.   Students with COVID-like symptoms or who receive an “X” indicating “Do not go to school” must remain home and isolate as instructed.

Holy Cross Parish

Please visit the Holy Cross website for more information on the children’s liturgy offered online during the weekend.

The weekend mass schedule is:

Saturday 5 p.m.

Sunday 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 12:00 p.m.
