St Brigid Weekly Update – Week of May 31 – June 4, 2021

Dear Parents,

Thank you for your continued support and patience as we carry on with virtual learning.  Students, educators and families are doing a fantastic job given the circumstances and we are so proud of everyone!

Indigenous Awareness Month

In June, Canadians celebrate National Indigenous History Month to honour the history, heritage and diversity of Indigenous peoples in Canada. It is also an opportunity to recognize the strength of present-day Indigenous communities.

Throughout the month, students will have an opportunity to learn more about Indigenous history and celebrate the culture through read-a-loud, activities and more. For more information visit the Government of Canada site

Rainbow Day

June is the designated Pride Month in Canada, and throughout the month, we will join other schools in our district in raising awareness, and nurturing our call to build safe and inclusive learning environments where every student and every member of the community is welcomedvalued, and respected

HCDSB Rainbow Day ~ Tuesday, June 1st

We will kick off our Pride Month celebrations with Rainbow Day on Tuesday, June 1st.

Students and staff are encouraged to dress in their most colourful clothes as we celebrate the rainbow – a sign of God’s promise to love us and a symbol of inclusion for all in our community!

Grade 8 Graduation

We are currently in the process of planning creative and innovative ways to honour students who are graduating in June. The release of the virtual graduation video will be on June 23rd, with a curbside drive-by for graduation certificates on June 24th.  We will be sharing more information in the coming weeks.

Free Family Paint Nights

HCDSB Indigenous Education Advisory has organized three free on-line paint nights with Indigenous artist Moses Lunham.  Two nights have already passed, with one more to come. This is a great way to come together in community to be creative and learn more about Indigenous art.  All information for paint nights, pictures and supplies needed will be posted on the HCDSB webpage.

Each session will have a different theme based on the natural cycle of the environment.  All sessions will be on the HCDSB YouTube Channel to start 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Wednesday, June 9th, 2021 – Strawberry Being the First Fruit of the Season

Moses Lunham will provide step-by-step instructions, encouragement and has agreed to leave the live video up for a period of one week between each session.

Sacred Heart of Jesus

The Month of June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart. The Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on the Friday following the second Sunday after Pentecost. In addition to the liturgical celebration, many devotional exercises are connected with the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Of all devotions, devotion to the Sacred Heart was, and remains, one of the most widespread and popular in the Church.

PA Day

Reminder that Friday June 4th is a PA Day for students and therefore no school.
