School Update – Week of February 15 – 19

St Brigid Weekly Update – Week of February 15-19, 2021

Dear Parents,

We had a great first week back to school this week!  It was so nice to see all the students and staff back together in routine and enjoying the connections in-person.

Transition in Learning Formats
For students where a change in learning format was requested, the transition to the new format will now take place on Tuesday, February 16th. We wish all our students well who are moving to remote learning and welcome those coming back to in-person learning.

Safe Arrival

Please ensure your child arrives at school for the start of the school day at 9 a.m.  Our outdoor/Kiss n’ Ride supervision ends at 9 a.m. and therefore students will need to sign in at the office in order to access the school after this time.

Checking for Signs & Symptoms of COVID-19

An important reminder to continue monitoring your children for symptoms of COVID-19 and complete the Ontario School Screening Tool for each child each morning, before sending them to school:  https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/

Masks
As you know, all HCDSB students must wear a mask at all times when at school.   The Ministry now requires that masks be worn outdoors where physical distancing cannot be maintained.

As we cannot ensure physical distancing is being maintained while students are outside during recess, effective Monday, February 8th, all students will now be required to wear their masks when outside at recess and outside after lunch. We will ensure mask breaks are provided throughout the day.

You may want to consider sending your child to school with multiple masks so that masks can be replaced when they become wet during outdoor use. You are encouraged to read this tip sheet created by Halton Region Public Health on the Use of Non-Medical Masks or Face Coverings in Schools.

Lent

As we enter into our Lenten journey this week, we will celebrate Ash Wednesday with virtual liturgies in each individual class.  Father Dave has shared a Gospel reflection to be played in each class as well.  Students will be involved in classroom-based activities, readings and connections related to Lent throughout the coming days and weeks.

I Read Canadian Day

Our school will participate in I Read Canadian Day on February 17th!  On this day, it is our goal to read 15 min of any novel by a Canadian author. Students are encouraged to read with their family and friends either here at school or at home.

The annual Lenten craft night will continue this year in a virtual manner during the week of February 22nd.  More information will follow next week.
