St Brigid Weekly Update – Week of November 23, 2020

Dear Parents,

This week, all classes participated in class-based activities to raise awareness regarding safe school, equity, inclusion and Gospel values.  We also raised awareness about Bullying Prevention and Intervention through our classroom read alouds, conversations and tasks, along with a school-wide daily announcements.  We work each day on supporting one another and standing up to bullying through embedded Focus on Faith themes in each of our classrooms, daily safe school messaging, class-based programs run by our CYC and interaction and discussions with all adults in the building.  All of this supports the work of Catholic education and the belief that every child can achieve, believe and belong in our school.

Our school-wide virtual parent-teacher interviews will take place this coming Thursday, November 26th in the evening and throughout the day on November 27th.  If you didn’t sign up via our online scheduling system, your child’s teacher will be reaching out to schedule a time.  Staff are looking forward to connecting with parents this week!

We would typically hold our Scholastic Book Fair in the library during this time, but given our virtual interviews, the Book Fair will be held virtually this year!  The virtual book fair is running from Monday November 23rd – Monday November 30th.All purchases can be made during this time with free shipping on orders over $35.00. A special “family night” on Wednesday November 25th from 6pm-8pm there is FREE shipping on all orders (no minimum)! All purchases will be shipped directly to the student’s addresses. Their purchases will benefit our school community.  Please use the following link to start your shopping:

Please continue to keep screening your children for COVID-19 each day using the updated guidelines in the link below:

Our next Catholic School Council Meeting takes place on Monday, November 30th, through a virtual format.

We will start using lockers in the upcoming week in order to provide a place for students to store their outerwear only.  Locks are not permitted on student lockers.  Lockers will be assigned to students and a system will be in place to ensure that students are able to maintain physical distancing and avoid congregating, while remaining within classroom cohorts daily.

For those parents using the Kiss n’ Ride, please remember that you must enter the Kiss n’ Ride area beside the school before dropping off your children.  As well, there is no stopping permitted in the Kiss n’ Ride area, in order to accommodate the large number of families dropping off, to keep traffic flowing.  For the safety of all students, please have children exit your vehicle on the school side of vehicle, not the parking lot side.  We appreciate your support to ensure all students and families arrive and depart in a safe manner.

We are happy to share with our St. Brigid families online access to X Movement Classroom! You will be able to start streaming 100+ Health & Wellness videos on demand.  Staff have access to this platform for in-class use as well.  Classroom teachers will communicate instructions for log-in information for at home use.

This year, as part of our Religion program, Miss Vella’s class will be running a Christmas Food Drive.  It will run from Monday, November 23rd to Friday December 4th.  During this time, we are asking for families to either bring in canned food items or to make monetary donations on School Cash Online.  These donations will be forwarded onto the Georgetown Bread Basket.

As always, the health and safety of our students, staff and families is our highest priority, and we will continue to take direction from the Ministry of Education and Halton Region Public Health to ensure all protocols are in place and followed in each of our schools
