St. Brigid Weekly Update – Week of September 14, 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are so proud that our first full week at school has been completed, and we thank you for your support this week.  We are all familiarizing ourselves with the new routines and protocols and students are doing a great job walking onto the property and getting to their classroom promptly in the morning.  We also noted and appreciate parents wearing their mask to drop off and pick up students.  Thank you for working together to make our school area safe for everyone.

Please note, you will need to use the newest Self-Assessment Online Tool each morning prior to your child coming to school.  Disregard the Ontario assessment link sent yesterday, as it has since changed based on schools specifically.

Each month we focus on a Gospel Value.  Our Gospel Value for the month of September is Faith. Faith is the great value of believing in God and trusting that God is with us. A faithful person believes that we are created, guided by and destined to be reunited with God.  A faithful person believes that God helps us to create a safe and caring school. Monthly awards are presented to students who demonstrate the monthly Gospel value.

The safety of our students at St. Brigid School, like in all school across the Halton Region, is a priority.  Please ensure you report your absence to the office when your child will be away.

Congratulations to the many St. Brigid students who have participated in the Poetry Institute of Canada’s Young Writers Division Contest during the spring of 2020! We had an excellent turnout and many student short stories and poem pieces have been selected to be published in the annual book of creative writing, The Raven’s Riddles.

Selected students would have already or will receive an envelope at school or by mail by the end of the month. If selected, please ensure to follow the instructions within the envelope to return the mandatory author’s release form. Families of winners may also choose to order the anthology copy online at: www.youngwritersofcanada.ca

All forms/orders are due to by October 31st, 2020. Selection of final winners and publication of work is expected in April 2021. St. Brigid will once again order some copies for our school Library. We are incredibly proud of all participants and good luck in the final selection!

Family Information Packages have gone home today to all families.  Please return these as soon as possible.

All students who have a Student Medical Plan of Care are reminded to bring in their epi-pen, puffer, medical items in a labelled Ziploc bag to give to their teacher, to be delivered to the office.  Those students with anaphylaxis are always reminded to be wearing their Epi-pens .

Supervision begins at 8:45 a.m. Parents are reminded to use the designated areas to drop children at and they will then enter directly into the building.

The Red Cross Kids Safety First Program has run for several years at St. Brigid School. It is being offered this year virtually and is optional for all families.  Please see the attached flyer.

Please note information will forthcoming in regard to a virtual Curriculum Night in the upcoming weeks.

Thank you for a great first week, let’s work together to keep our students and staff safe!

Enjoy the week!
