St Brigid Weekly Update – Week of December 2, 2019

Dear Parents,

Advent is a season of joyful preparation for the Birth of Christ at Christmas. Advent is a season of hope and of longing, of joyful expectation. In the words of Pope Francis, “Advent is the time to welcome the Lord who comes to meet us, the time to look ahead, and to prepare ourselves for Christ’s return.” Many symbols and traditions are associated with Advent. Perhaps the best known symbol is the Advent Wreath.  The light of the candles signifies the light of Christ, Who will come into the world at Christmas. As we prepare for Christmas, let us be reminded that we are called to be a light to others, to radiate love, goodness and compassion to all we meet.

The St. Brigid C.S.C would like to invite families to join us prior to the Advent Mass on December 3rd to join in creating an Advent craft between 6pm and 6:45pm at the Cote Hall. The Holy Cross Family Advent Mass will follow at 7:00 pm at Holy Cross Church.  RSVP by Sunday evening for the craft at: Craft Registration

Beginning in the fall of 2019, the 50th Anniversary of the Board’s formation, and continuing until Catholic Education Week 2021, each school in the Halton Catholic District School Board will journey with a specially designed cross from school to school, accompanying it with song and prayer.  The journey of the cross has recently begun in Georgetown, starting at Christ the King, and we will receive the cross at St. Brigid on December 11th.  We look forward to enthroning the cross with a prayer service and participating in activities to celebrate the cross and the 50th Anniversary of the Halton Catholic District School Board’s formation.

Our Senior Girls Volleyball Team captured the HCDSB System GOLD Medal this week and our Senior Boys Volleyball Team captured the HCDSB System BRONZE Medal this week! The girls and boys on the team exemplified excellent teamwork and worked very hard, playing in some very tough matches, to achieve their goal! CONGRATULATIONS!

Junior volleyball is starting to get underway! Students should listen to the announcements for additional information. Primary Games Club will be up and running soon! Our St. Brigid Band and Choir continue to practice. Our ECO Bears and St. Brigid Brigade are working diligently to organize school wide events.
