This year marks the 50th anniversary of the formation of the Halton Catholic District School Board. The 50th Anniversary was officially launched at the Regular Board Meeting on November 19th, with the unveiling of the Pilgrimage of the Cross, which was then transported to the starting point of the journey, beginning at Christ the King Catholic Secondary School here in Georgetown. The Pilgrimage of the Cross will journey from school to school, and will continue until Catholic Education Week, 2021.
St. Brigid School is blessed to be the fourth school in our board to receive the cross, which is confirmed to arrive at our school on Thursday, December 12, 2019, spend the week with our students, and then continue its journey to Holy Cross School.
To honour this special observance of our board’s 50th Anniversary, along with the arrival of the pilgrimage cross, the students and staff of St. Brigid School will be engaging in the following activities:
- Some of our grade seven students will be walking to Holy Cross Church on the afternoon of Thursday December 12th to receive the cross from St. Catherine of Alexandria students. They will journey with the cross back to our school where all students will greet the pilgrims and welcome them in song.
- We will be joining as a community of faith for a Pilgrimage of the Cross liturgy on Friday, December 13, 2019 in our school gymnasium.
- Students will be participating in 50th Anniversary Cross Activities over the next couple of weeks. This fits in nicely with our Advent preparation. We will be sure to Tweet and share our stories.
The Halton Catholic District School Board has planned a number of special events and activities to commemorate this significant milestone in the history of HCDSB, and we want all members of our HCDSB community to join the celebrations!
