School Update – Week of May 6, 2019

St. Brigid Weekly Update – Week of May 6, 2019

Dear Parents,

Thank you to all our families who participated in our St. Brigid Family Math Night! It was an exciting evening!  One of our goals at St. Brigid School is to support our students to make sense of math, to build conceptual understanding of math concepts, rather than just memorize procedures and rules! Playing math games supports this goal!  If you are interested in learning more about this idea, take some time to view this Ted Talk by Greg Tang titled “Making Sense of Math”.

The Gospel Value for the month of May is “Acceptance”. The Gospel Value of ACCEPTANCE means we accept ourselves and others just the way we are.  God created all of us in His image, and God does not make mistakes.  Being a part of God’s family means that we love and welcome everyone just the way Jesus did.  An accepting person is willing to treat everybody as a member of a group, non-judgmental, welcoming to those different than himself/herself and loving and happy with who he/she is.

As shared in a School Messenger message earlier this week, it’s Catholic Education Week. The theme for this year is “Living as Joyful Disciples”. We look forward to welcoming you to St. Brigid School throughout the week as you visit your children’s’ classes! On Thursday, our entire school will participate in a liturgy and our St. Brigid Walk With Jesus. Please review the St. Brigid Catholic Education Week Schedule for all the details!

This week is also Mental Health Week! Students are encouraged to listen carefully each day to morning announcements to learn about the importance of mental health!

Emergency Preparedness Week is a federal-provincial-territorial initiative to promote emergency preparedness across Canada. This year, EP Week runs from May 5-11 and the provincial theme for Ontario is: Are You Ready?  Visit The Town of Halton Hills and Get Prepared Canada for more information!

Our grades 4 to 8 students had a great time participating in a session with Miguel Martinez from MTC Life on Thursday morning! Our grades 4 to 8 students will participate once again this week!  Parents and students are invited to our MTC Life Family Night on May 30th! This series is supported by our Parent Reaching Out Grant!
