St. Brigid Weekly Update – Week of April 15, 2019
It’s hard to believe Lent is coming to an end and Holy Week has begun! Classes will be recognizing Holy Week in a variety of ways. We begin with Palm Sunday. On Palm Sunday we remember Jesus’ journey into Jerusalem. We are nearing the end of our Lenten journey and preparing for the Paschal Triduum that lasts from sundown on Holy Thursday until sunset on Easter Sunday – the three days of the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. On Good Friday we commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. On Holy Saturday we remember Jesus’ suffering and death and look forward with hope and anticipation to His resurrection. On Holy Saturday we celebrate the Easter Vigil. On Easter Sunday we give thanks and praise to God for the resurrection of Jesus and the gift of new life. On Thursday morning grades 2 through 8 will gather for a Holy Thursday Liturgy. Kindergarten and Grade 1 classes will participate in Holy Thursday Liturgies in their classrooms.
This week we will also recognize Earth Week. Please visit EARTH WEEK for all the details!
A huge thank you to everyone who attended our production of “Annie Jr”. St. Brigid School definitely has some very talented actors and actresses who did an amazing job in their various roles! Our students worked very hard, attending early morning and weekend practices for several months! Thanks to the entire cast and crew for their dedication and commitment! Special thanks to Ms. Vella, Mrs. Boras, Ms. Rudnicki, Madame Anthony, Ms. Fortier and Ms. Watts who directed the play, created the sets, coordinated costumes, organized the music and choreography and coached and mentored our young actors! It was an amazing show!
Our Christ the King Sports Leadership students will begin running Intramurals this week for our students! Intramurals for grades 1 through 4 will be “Open Activities”! Students in a specific grade will be invited to come to the gym during the lunch hour and join the fun! Students are encouraged to listen to the morning announcements so they know what grade is invited daily. Our tentative schedule is as follows: (Schedule may change depending on other activities taking place)
We are excited to share that on Friday the lines for various games were repainted on our playground! Just a reminder that all equipment must be Nerf and that basketballs may only be used on the basketball courts. This helps everyone play safely!
On Wednesday our Grade 7 students will be participating in the “Tech Rocks Conference” at Christ the King Secondary School. This provides our students with an opportunity to participate in “hands-on learning” that helps them better understand the elective courses offered at the secondary level.
Also, on Wednesday, educators from The Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies will be visiting St. Brigid and engaging our Grade 8 students in a workshop about “Digital Hate and Intolerance.” Issues such as cyberbullying, digital hate and the real-life consequences of these increasingly dangerous and growing trends will be investigated.
