St. Brigid Weekly Update – Week of April 1, 2019

Dear Parents,

It is hard to believe it is the fourth Sunday of Lent and the beginning of April! Our Gospel value for the month of April is conscience. CONSCIENCE is the voice of God within us.  Our conscience reminds us how to act towards other people and how to be a good friend.  Sometimes it is hard for us to do the right thing, but we must always remember that the right thing to do is not always the easy thing to do.

A person of conscience…

  • chooses to do the right thing, even when it is hard
  • takes time to think and pray before making decisions
  • knows that their actions and decisions affect all those around them
  • thinks of others before themselves

Congratulations to our Junior and Senior Battle of the Books Teams who competed this week at the Georgetown Branch of the Halton Hills Library. Our teams showed great teamwork, enthusiasm and did an excellent job representing our school!

Thank you to all our families for participating in our Lenten Craft and Lenten Family Mass at Holy Cross Parish on Tuesday night. Special thanks to our Catholic School Council, Mrs. Wey and our volunteers, for organizing the Lenten crafts and Father Dave Walter for celebrating Mass with our CTK families.

On Wednesday Babarinde Williams visited St. Brigid to conduct drumming workshops for our K-2 students in the morning and presented “UBUNTU” (I AM YOU), a character development assembly presentation for students in grades 3 through grade 8 in the afternoon. Babarinde left us with many things to think about. He shared the following quote, “When I see you through my eyes, I think we are different. When I see you through my heart, I know we are the same.” He encouraged all of us to see others through our hearts and practice kindness always.

Congratulations to Matea, Makena and Briane who did an excellent job representing St. Brigid in the HCDSB French Public Speaking Competition. Felicitations Matea on winning the regional finals (gr.4-6) for French immersion with her speech on “Inspiration”

On Friday some of our primary, junior and intermediate students enjoyed trying out the sport of curling through the  Rocks & Rings Program.  The program introduces students to curling using unique indoor floor curling equipment.  The students had such a great experience so we are investigating the purchase of the equipment so we can extend this activity to physical education classes and intramurals.

On Tuesday, April 2nd we will recognize World Autism Day! Wear blue! Our St. Brigid Brigade has been sharing information about Autism with our school through weekly announcements and reminding us to wear blue!

An invitation was extended to all students in grades 4 through 8 to participate in St. Brigid’s Running Club, formerly known as “Team Unbreakable”. Students were invited to pick up permission forms on Thursday and Friday last week. This is a learn to run, go at your own pace, set your own goals program that encourages overall physical and mental well-being. Students of all abilities are encouraged to participate! Activities take place during the lunch hour! Anyone who did not pick up a permission form who is interested in participating should connect with Mrs. Raymond, our Child and Youth Counsellor.

Our CTK Sports Leadership students will be partnering with staff to run primary intramurals for students in grades 1 through 4 from April 15th to May 10th during the lunch hour! More details to follow!

Our cast and crew for this year’s play, “Annie Jr.” have been working very hard for many weeks! We are excited to announce that there will be two evening performances of “Annie Jr.”, on April 10, 2019 and April 11, 2019. Show time is 6:45 p.m. Tickets are $5.00 and are now on sale on School Cash Online.
