Weekly Update: January 3 – 7

“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

John 1:14

We wish all of our St. Anthony Families a New Year filled with many of God’s abundant graces.

International Travel

Please note, according to the Ministry of Education and Public Health protocols, unvaccinated children under the age of 12, may not attend school or childcare for 14 days after their arrival to Canada. If your child falls under this category, please call in your child’s absence and let your child’s teacher know.

Covid-19 Daily Screening

It is imperative that students complete the Covid-19 Self Assessment on a daily basis and stay home if exhibiting any symptoms. Students, with no pre-existing conditions, who exhibit symptoms during the school day will be sent home and referred to a medical practitioner for advice or testing.

As you may or may not be aware, the Ministry of Education has once again directed all schools to implement daily confirmation of COVID-19 self-screening for all students attending school in person.  This will be in place for
the first two weeks of school after our Christmas holidays.

Confirmation of the daily screening must be provided to the classroom teacher.

Students will be provided with a Confirmation of Daily COVID-19 Student Screening Log, on the first
day back from the holidays. Students MUST bring the completed form back and forth to school each day.

This LINK will direct you to the form that will be used for the scheduled 2 weeks.

We will need confirmation on each and every day that your child(ren) will be attending school, including
the first day back.

We ask that parents can do one of 2 things for the 1st day:

Print the form at home to send daily to and from school

Send your child with a written note to the teacher indicating the screening has been completed.

Students are required to wear masks upon entering school property in the morning and when leaving school at the end of the day, as cohorting is not maintained during those times. Students will continue to wear their masks throughout the day, with the exception of during recess/lunch breaks (while eating/drinking or outdoors) and during mask breaks.

Morning Routine & Kiss N’ Ride

Students will be entering the school in the morning upon arrival and going directly to their classroom. Students will not be permitted in the school before 9:00 AM as that is when supervision begins. For safety reasons, we ask that children remain off of school property until 9:00 AM. Only staff and students are permitted in the schoolyard. Please remain behind the pylons on the grassed area at the back of the school and/or do not pass the gates located on each side of the school.

If you are driving your child to school, we ask families to park in a designated parking spot if you must exit your car. We ask that you please keep the Kiss N’ Ride areas moving. The Kiss N’ Ride area is not meant as parking spots. We have staff on hand in the Kiss N’ Ride zones to assist children upon arrival and therefore it is not necessary for you to get out of your vehicle if using the Kiss N’ Ride area.

Safe Arrival Procedure

Please remember to inform the school of your child’s absence through the School Messenger app or or 1-844-445-4505. When we do not receive your call, we are concerned about your child. We call home, your workplace or an emergency contact number. Please let the office know if your telephone numbers change. If we cannot determine an unexplained absence, we must call the police department and report the unaccounted absence. If buses are cancelled, only bus students are excused from school. All other absences must be reported.

Lunch Routines

For the health and safety of our students and school community, it is strongly recommended that all elementary students remain at school for the full duration of their lunch periods. If your child needs to leave the school for lunch, we ask that a parent/guardian pick them up directly from the school (front doors only) and make those arrangements ahead of time with the school.

As we limit visitors to our school throughout the day, lunch drop offs will not be permitted during the school day unless it is an emergency situation.  Parents and guardians are asked to provide their child(ren) with lunch in the morning before students enter the school building.

Visitors to the School

At this time, there will be no unauthorized visits to the school. Visits are limited to emergency or essential purposes and all visitors must receive permission from administration and must complete the required paperwork prior to entering the school.

Staggered Dismissal Times

To minimize congestion in the yard, we continue to dismiss students to their parents at the following staggered times:

  • 3:30 – Kindergarten
  • 3:35 – Primary
  • 3:40 – Junior classes inside the school
  • 3:45 – Portable classes and Intermediate

We ask parents to wait outside the gates on either side of the school, or on the grassy field at the back of the school at both drop-off and dismissal. Teachers will ensure students are released when parents are within sightline. For the safety of all our students, we ask that all parents remain off the asphalt at the back of the school until all students are dismissed.

Indoor Shoes

All children are asked to bring a pair of indoor shoes to school every day. Please ensure that each shoe is labelled with your child’s name in case it gets misplaced or lost.

Cell Phones and Personal Devices

It is the expectation that cell phones and personal devices are only used on school property under the direction and supervision of the teacher. All devices must be turned off and left in the student’s backpack or held by the teacher during the school day. Devices that are used without permission will be confiscated and held at the office until they can be returned to the student at the end of the day.

Parent Communication

As we do not have agendas this year, please communicate with staff via email or phone messages. Classroom teachers will communicate with parents through the use of D2L or other apps, as applicable.
