Weekly Update Nov. 25 – Nov. 29

This Sunday we celebrated the Feast of Christ the King. This brings an end to our liturgical year. We wish that the season of Advent brings with it peace and happiness to your families.

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Thank you for your support in attending interviews for your child(ren) and supporting our Used Uniform Sale. Thank you to the Catholic School Council for organizing this initiative.

This past week our school celebrated Bullying Prevention and Awareness Week. Along with many classroom activities, we were fortunate to have Nadja Halilbegovich, a war survivor and author, come to our school to speak to grades 5 – 8 about hope, resiliency and kindness.

A representative from Halton Women’s Place presented to our grade 5 classes this past week and to our grade 4’s this week.

Our Halton Regional Police School Liaison will be at the school on Thursday to speak with our grade 7 and 8 students.

As we proceed into the winter months, please take extra care during dropoff and pick up times. Ensure that your children are exiting cars from the passenger side in the kiss and ride lane and remind them to avoid walking between cars and buses and to use the sidewalks.

Please remember that supervision in the yard begins at 9:00 AM. Students should not be arriving prior to that time unless they attend the YMCA before school program. Our bell rings at 9:15 AM. As the weather turns colder, we notice a number of students are arriving late to school. Several studies have shown that school tardiness has a negative impact on learning outcomes. … But not only does a student who is consistently arriving late to school establish bad punctuality habits, but tardiness also disrupts the learning of other students in their classes

Kernels Popcorn is now being sold at St. Anthony of Padua!  Students have an opportunity to order individual bags of Kernels Popcorn for only $2.25 per bag through cash online!  You can choose from the following flavours: Buttersalt, Ketchup, Salt & Vinegar, Low Fat Caramel, White Cheddar, and Dill Pickle. So many flavours!  Which flavour will be your favourite?

There will be 2 opportunities in December, the 12th and the 19th. Cash-online for these orders closes on November 26th, so get your orders in.

In the new year, the popcorn orders will be delivered to classrooms every Thursday. Orders for the new year will be sent out in a few weeks.

Paint the Town Red: Friday, November 29th

Students are invited to wear red and donate a toonie in support of United Way. United Way makes measurable improvements on priority social issues in our community. By working with our community partners to understand root causes, develop strategies to address them, bring together the right resources to get the job done and measure our results, we create lasting change in this community. Students not wearing red are expected to be in uniform.

HOLY ROSARY YOUTH MINISTRY

Are you the parent of a pre-teen or teen (age 10-17)? Are you interested in joining a committee for visioning and discerning the needs and direction of a future Holy Rosary Youth Ministry? We need you! You are invited to attend a meeting to listen to parents, just like you, who have gone through the process and will share their experiences of success and challenges. This meeting will be on Wednesday, November 27th at 7:30 pm in the Parish Hall. We want to begin the discussion on how to create a sustainable parent-supported youth group that:

  1. Glorifies Jesus and draws each person closer to him
  2. Helps youth to build relationships and community
  3. Gives opportunities for service to others
  4. Cultivates stewardship of our environment
