School Update: Sept. 21

Welcome back to the start of our second week at St. Anne Catholic Elementary School!

We hope that you had a restful weekend, and you are all settling into the new routines. Our entry in the morning is getting smoother, and the students are finding their way to their classrooms. Please remember that our doors will be unlocked at 8:25am once we have supervision and will remain unlocked until 8:45am so please don’t worry if the new construction traffic in our area slows you down a bit!

Please remember to spread out at dismissal and utilize our playground zones (Zones #4 and #8 on the West Side by the Kindergarten side and Zones #5 and #6 beside the portables) if our sidewalks get crowded. (I may have given you the wrong numbers initially!) Please do your best to stay in these areas to not crowd our students as they exit our building at the end of the day. We are dismissing students gradually, starting with our Kindergarten students, followed by our Primary students (Grades 1-3) and then our Juniors and Intermediates. Please remember the Halton Public Health guidelines and wear a mask when you cannot physically distance in order to protect everyone!

September Start Up Packages were sent home with the oldest/only child in the family on Friday.  If you could please complete the paperwork and return with your child as soon as possible we would appreciate it.

Yearbooks have also been distributed to all those that purchased them through the cash online system last June.  We do have a limited number available for sale if you missed the opportunity.  Please email Mrs. Tharby at if you’re interested.

Normally at this time we would be gearing up for our Welcome Back BBQ and Curriculum Night. At this time, we are unable to host the BBQ, and we are awaiting some instruction from our Board about how best to run a Curriculum Night type evening. When we have some details, we will communicate what this could look like this year. In the meantime, please make sure that you connect with your child(ren)’s teacher! We may be able to get something “virtually” ready for you soon!

Finally, on Friday you would have received a notice from the Board about changes from the Ontario government in terms of screening for schools. This NEW screening tool, COVID-19 School Screening has been posted on the Board’s Return To School website under Daily Screening, and is accessible here: As before, Parents or guardians must complete this new COVID-19 School Screening tool before leaving for school each day. Please use this screening tool moving forward, as the one that was provided at the start of the school year is no longer applicable. Other changes to protocols include the siblings of students not feeling well will NOT be sent home (unless they are showing symptoms themselves) and household members will also NOT need to self-isolate (unless they are showing symptoms too).

Thank you all for your ongoing patience and understanding as we navigate through this start of school. With your help, we will continue to ensure the safety and well-being of all members of our Catholic School Community.

Mr. B. Melanson
