Catholic School Council Election Procedures
A new “School Councils” regulation under the Education Act, which came into effect in December 2000, sets out specific requirements regarding the composition of school councils and election processes. We began to follow the outlined process in the fall of 2001, and we continue to ensure that the obligations set out in the regulations will be observed. One of the requirements of the regulation is that the school council elections must take place within the first 30 days of each school year.
At St. Anne Catholic Elementary School, we invite you to consider nominating yourself, or another parent candidate. Please select and complete the appropriate form. See the posted “Catholic School Council Election Package” on our school website:https://elem.hcdsb.org/stanne/wp-content/uploads/sites/19/2020/09/Council-Elections-Package-St.-Anne-2020-1.pdf Once completed, forward it to the attention of the principal by 4:00pm on September 25, 2020 in a sealed envelope, or electronically at firstname.lastname@example.org. The principal will confirm the receipt of the nomination. Should we receive more nominations than required, we will hold an election on Wednesday, September 30, 2020. If we receive the appropriate amount of nominations or less, and all candidates fulfill the requirements as outlined in the new regulation, they will be acclaimed, and the school community will be informed of the membership. The date of the first meeting will be Monday, October 5, 2020 at 6:45 p.m. via a virtual platform.
We look forward to working closely with the new St. Anne Catholic Elementary School Council, a supportive team of individuals dedicated to children and the preservation of Catholic Education, and to a fulfilling and productive 2020-2021 school year no matter what our future holds!
B. Melanson, Principal
