Program for Gifted Students

Students who meet the following criteria are eligible for our Gifted Classes in Grades 5 – 8:

  • the student is registered and enrolled with the Halton Catholic District School Board
  • the student has been identified as exceptional through an IPRC process, with committee members from our school board, with his/her intellectual functioning falling in the very superior range, at or above the 98th percentile, as indicated on an appropriate full-scale psycho-educational assessment or relevant sub-tests as determined by the supervising psychologist or psychological associate
  • through parent consultation and the recommendation of the committee, the Identification, Placement, and Review Committee makes a determination that placement in a self-contained class is the most beneficial placement for the student based on the student’s strengths and needs, assessment data, and the fact that the student meets the criteria for identification

The Gifted Program at St. Andrew School provides students who are identified as gifted with opportunities for friendship with both students from our regular classes as well as with like-ability peers in a contained class setting. Modifications in pace, depth and complexity to the grade level Ontario curriculum are used to meet the gifted child’s learning needs within the Gifted Program.
