Welcome Back – and Thank You!
We had a great first week back at St. Andrew, and we appreciate all of the preparation and practice you did with your children at home to help them get ready. We are so proud of how quickly everyone adjusted to our routines and procedures. We couldn’t do it without you!
We appreciate your support in completing the daily COVID-19 screening and sharing the results with us. Please continue this practice every day!
The board is supplying each child with a mask. Your child will receive their new mask next week.
Student Information and Consent Forms Due Friday
As with every new school year, we have several consent forms for families to complete and information to share. If your child has not already brought these documents home, they will next week:
- Consent for school email account for all JK students and students K-3 new to our Board
- Physcial Education Consent Forms – yellow paper – for all students K-8
- Duty to Report Letter (for more information see below)
- Letter about Agendas for students in Grades 1-6 (cost is $5 each through School CashOnline)
NEW this year– Family Information / Consent Packages are found online. Please complete the online form for each of your children as soon as possible: https://laserfiche.hcdsb.org/Forms/parent_consents
This is to replace the paper copies that used to be completed during the first week of school.
We also ask that that all Medical Forms (anaphylaxis, asthma, diabetes, etc.), are updated and submitted to the office, along with any necessary medication by Tuesday, September 14. This information is critically important when dealing with a medical emergency at school.
Daily Self-Assessment of COVID-19 Symptoms
All students (K-Grade 12), staff and visitors are required to complete the https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/ daily before the start of school as directed by the Ministry of Education and Halton Public Health Services.
Additionally, all students will be required to provide confirmation that they have taken and passed the assessment upon arrival at school. Verification will be conducted by the homeroom teacher during morning attendance.
Many of our Intermediate students have been completing their screening upon their arrival in the presence of their teachers.
Our PARENTS of Primary and Junior Classes are asked to continue to complete their Confirmation Screening Log kept in your child’s agenda for this week.
Returning School Resources
With our return to school you may have found some overlooked textbooks, library books, or technology that belong to the school. Please return anything that belongs to St. Andrew School as soon as possible as other students will benefit from those resources.
Student Safety at Entry and Dismissal
While we know that you want to ensure that your children enter and leave school safely, please remember that we need to avoid congregating. Please leave school property immediately after dropping off and picking up your child.
We respectfully request that NO parents access the schoolyard blacktop, (playground). If you bring your child from the back of the property, we ask that you remain on the grass as close to the back fence as you feel safely possible. If you come from the parking lot areas, we ask that you remain at the yellow gates. While you are not a stranger to your child, you are a stranger to our other students.
While we love our four-legged friends, some children are afraid of dogs, some children have allergies, and some dogs can be unnerved by our busy parking lots. Therefore DOGS ARE NOT PERMITTED school property unless they are service dogs.
Dress for the Weather
We will be outside for recess under all but the most extreme weather conditions. Please dress your children appropriately for the weather. In light rain, we will still be outside for recess.
Parking Lot Safety
Student safety when coming to school and going back home is very important to us!
A reminder of the following safety tips and school regulations:
- Encourage your children to use crosswalks and walkways.
- Do not use the driveway in front of the school during the morning arrival or after school dismissal. It is reserved for buses or after school program pick ups.
- If you must drive your child to school, please follow the traffic flow rules in place at the north and south sides of the school. Stop or park only in designated spaces and not in the Kiss N’ Ride
- If you cannot maintain a 2m distance between yourself and others at pick-up, please wear a mask.
- If you drive to or from the school, please remember: be patient and courteous; do not block the main road thoroughfares; drive slowly and be vigilant for pedestrians/children.
Please note that the creative playground in the Kindergarten yard is only for the use of our Kindergarten students and should not be used by any other students before or after school. Dogs are not permitted in this area at any time.
Reminder About Lunch/Snacks/Water Bottles
We need to limit the number of people coming to the school throughout the school day. Please make every effort to ensure that your children have what they need before they leave the house in the morning. That said, we know how easy it is to forget things. If you need to drop off something at that school for your child during the day, please call in advance so we don’t have multiple people arriving at the same time.
Fair Notice – Duty to Report and Attendance
Every year we remind our families of our professional duty to report any child we believe to be in need of protection to the Halton Children’s Aid Society. As well, we also remind our families of their responsibility to ensure regular attendance at school. Please review both of the attached letters, and speak to a staff member if you have any questions or concerns.
