Happy Father’s Day – June 20th

We would like to wish a very happy Father’s Day to all of the wonderful St. Andrew Dads!

Let use praise those fathers who strive to balance the demands of work, marriage, and children with joy and sacrifice.

Let us praise those fathers, who despite marital discord, have remained in their children’s lives.

Let us praise those fathers who adopted their children and whose love has nurtured and supported them with a life that thrives.

Let us praise those fathers who, as stepfathers, freely choose the obligation of fatherhood and earned their step children’s love and respect.

Let us praise those men who have no children of their own, but cherish the next generation as if they were their own.

Let us praise all of those men who have “fathered” us in their role as mentors and guides.

Let us praise those men about to become fathers; may they openly delight in their children.

And let us praise those fathers who have died, but live on in our memory and whose love continues to nurture us!

Congratulations Graduating Class of 2021

On Friday evening we celebrated our Grade 8’s with a Drive-Thru Graduation for a Curbside Pick-up of their awards, diplomas and a little bit of St. Andrew swag. We are very proud of these young people and how they have learned and grown during their time at St. Andrew. It was wonderful celebrating all of their accomplishments with their families.

A huge thank you to all our Intermediate Staff who helped organize, plan and prepare Graduation this year!

End of the Year School Liturgy

Our Grade 5 students will be leading us in our End-of-the-Year Liturgy on Friday, June 25th at 9:15 AM. A link will be sent out on Thursday as all are welcome!

Student Belongings, Medication, & Cookbook Pick-up

We still have lots of student belongings, cookbooks and medication to be picked up. Please come to the front door of the school Monday – Friday, from 9:00am – 3:00pm for pickup.

All medication should have been picked up by June 17th. If we currently hold medication for your child, please pick it up by June 29th before noon (please note the school will be closed by 12pm). Note- any medication not picked up by June 29th will be brought to the pharmacy for proper disposal. Attached to your child’s medication will be a health care form from this past year.  The information on these forms will need to be reviewed, updated, and returned during the week of August 30th, 2021.  

If you ordered a St. Andrew Cookbook, please come to the school Monday – Friday, from 9:00am- 3:00pm for pick up.

Masks are mandatory on school property.

Important!
Anyone accessing the school site must conduct a Visitor Screening BEFORE arriving. Please CLICK HERE to access the link.
Each of the following four (4) conditions MUST apply: 

  1. You are symptom-free of respiratory illness;
  2. You are not to be in self-isolation, as advised by Public Health;
  3. You have not been outside of Canada within the last 14 days from the date of entry to the school site;
  4. You have not cared for or had known contact with an individual with confirmed COVID-19 OR COVID-19 like symptoms (fever, new cough, difficulty breathing).

If any of the above conditions are not met, then you MUST NOT visit the school site.

Returning Technology & Textbooks

If you have any school technology, or textbooks to be returned, we will be designating June 28th and 29th as drop off dates. If you are going to be away before then, and have items to return to the school, please return them before you leave by coming to the front office at any time Monday-Friday 8:30-4:00.

Report Cards

Once again, in light of health and safety protocols due to COVID-19, all student report cards will be delivered electronically.  Elementary Term 2 Report Cards will be emailed directly to parents and guardians on Wednesday, June 23, 2021.

On March 22, 2021, the Halton OECTA Elementary Association began a job action across our district. As part of the current phase of job action, permanent teachers have been directed by OECTA not to prepare or input comments on student report cards.

In light of this job sanction, for most elementary students, the report card will include grade marks, but no comments.  

Notwithstanding the above, please note the following:

  • If your child’s teacher is a Long Term Occasional Teacher (i.e. not a permanent teacher with the Board), your child’s report card will include both grade marks and comments.  
  • If your child is in Kindergarten, one comment (sentence) will be included in each frame of the report.  
  • If your child is evaluated on an alternative report card (which does not include a grade mark), the report will include one comment (sentence) for each section of the report.

SEPTEMBER STARTUP 2021

Office Hours Starting Monday, August 30

The school office will be open on Monday, August 30 at 8:30 a.m. Office staff and administration will be available all of that week. New registrations will be accepted that week as well. Please drop off epi-pens, other medications and forms during this week. Parents are also invited to review the medical plans with the administration this week, if possible.

Tuesday, September 7th, Back to School Grades 1 – 8

On your child’s report card is an OEN (Ontario Education Number).  As of September 2nd, you will be able to log onto the board’s website and access your child’s class placement by using the OEN. As registrations continue to come in, please set your children up for success by explaining that class placements are subject to change based on enrollment. At any given time, it may be necessary to re-organize classes within the school to meet Ministry of Education standards. Please be mindful that many hours of care have been put into creating balanced classes to best meet the needs of our students and we ask that you trust our staff.

You will be emailed instructions for entry on the first day of school. Due to Covid19 restrictions, students will enter directly into the school building upon arrival at school. Parents are asked not to enter our schoolyard. Staff will be available outside to escort the children into the building as they arrive.

Student Agendas

This communication tool will be ordered for students in Grades 1-6 and the money will be collected in September at a cost of $5 per student. We are informing you at this time so that you can include this in your back-to-school budget.

School Bus Courtesy Seat Application on Hold

Each year, in accordance with HSTS Procedure HS-1-004 – Courtesy Seats, families with children who are not otherwise eligible for school bus transportation to and from school are allowed to apply for courtesy seats on school buses.

Halton Student Transportation Services (HSTS) will not be able to accommodate courtesy seats as we move into the 2021-2022 school year. However, as information becomes available from public health, this decision may be reconsidered, and we will communicate any changes.

As a result, the courtesy seat application process is on HOLD for the 2021-2022 school year. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Lunchtime Supervisors Needed!

Are you a person who loves children? Are you flexible, patient, and comfortable around rambunctious kids? We are looking for Lunchtime Supervisors for our 2021-2022 school year to monitor classes during the lunch period and supervise children on the schoolyard during the middle recess period. If you are interested, please contact Mrs. Kotulak ASAP at kotulakm@hcdsb.org or call the school and ask to speak to Mrs. Kotulak.

Volunteers

Due to Covid19, we were unable to invite volunteers into the school to support our programming and extra-curricular activities as we normally do at St. Andrew School. We are very hopeful that we will be able to welcome volunteers back into our school at some point during the 2021-2022 school year. If you are interested in volunteering at our school we ask that you obtain both a Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) and a Criminal Reference Check (CRC) at Halton Regional Police Services. Please consider having this done over the summer. All volunteers, both new and experienced, must have an updated police reference check. You can also apply online at: www.haltonpolice.ca

National STEAM Summer Camp

A week of fun virtual events and exciting real-world experts in the STEAM field!

National STEAM Summer Camp is designed to introduce your child to the many opportunities in the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) field through fun and interactive activities. This week-long event helps children recognize the importance of their education while exposing them to a wide variety of careers. We encourage you to review the Parent Guide below to ensure your child has a safe and enjoyable virtual experience.

Literacy and Numeracy Summer Programs for Students in Grades 6 – 8

The Halton Catholic District School Board’s Thomas Merton Centre for Continuing Education is pleased to be offering Literacy and Math Summer Programs for Grades 6, 7, and 8 students from July 5 – July 16, 2021 (Session 1) and July 19 – July 30, 2021 (Session 2).

Please note that due to the current COVID-19 situation, the health and well-being of our students continues to remain our highest priority. All Session 1 and Session 2 classes will be offered in a distance (e-learning) format this summer.

The deadline to register is June 24, 2021. No registrations will be accepted after June 24th 

Thomas Merton Grade 8 Reach Ahead Program

The HCDSB Thomas Merton Centre for Adult and Continuing Education is offering Grade 8 Reach Ahead programs in the 2021 Summer School for only those students who are pupils of the Halton Catholic District School Board. This program offers highly motivated students of a high academic standing to earn Grade 9 courses in advance of starting high school.

For students interested in engaging in the Reach Ahead program, the courses offered will represent their first exposure to high school credits. However, please be advised:

  • summer school secondary credits are conducted at an accelerated pace (5 times faster than secondary day school programs) over 20 days
  • students are expected to attend classes from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday to Friday
  • students can expect to spend anywhere from 2 to 2.5 hours per day on homework

Please Note: For the reasons stated above, elementary principals, in consultation with their parents, must provide the approvals for all Grade 8 students engaging in Reach Ahead studies indicating that their students are ready for secondary school studies.

Students who wish to register themselves for this program must register through myBlueprint on the Thomas Merton Summer School website. The deadline for summer school registrations is June 24, 2021 at 4PM sharp. For more information, please see the Grade 8 Reach Ahead information page.

Halton Food for Thought – Support Available for Families

We would like to make you aware of the support available to all families during these uncertain times through Halton Food for Thought and their partnership with Food for Kids. Please see the information below and note the link to access the website.

The Healthy Student Snack Bag program is open to all HDSB and HCDSB students and student families. There is no registration required – families are encouraged to go to the HFFT website Halton Food For Thought for dates, times, and locations to pick up the bags.

Attendance! Please note that attendance will be taken daily as per usual. If your child will be absent from their virtual classroom, please report the absence via School Messenger.

Not Returning? If your children will not be returning to St. Andrew in September, please email Mrs. Cerqueira at CerqueiraD@hcdsb.org to let our office staff know as soon as possible. This information will be helpful to us as we begin to consider our classes for next year.
