Teacher-Led Remote Learning Begins for ALL Students
On April 12, 2021, the Premier of Ontario announced that all Ontario elementary and secondary schools will be moving to remote learning following the Spring Break. Read the News Release here. Students who are currently enrolled in our Virtual School will resume their classes as per usual on Monday, April 19th, 2021. Students who are currently enrolled in our Face-to-Face school will begin their remote learning on Tuesday, April 20th, 2021.
Beginning on Tuesday, April 20th, we will generally follow our regular school schedule, including a 9:00 AM start time for individual classes. You can expect recess and lunch breaks, French period, Arts period, etc. to occur at their usual times.
Please note that attendance will be taken daily as per usual. If your child will be absent from their virtual classroom, please report the absence via School Messenger.
Safe Arrival Student Absence Reporting
Parents are reminded to report both full-day and partial-day absences using our automated student attendance management SafeArrival system prior to 9 a.m.. The student attendance management system is available 24/7 and will allow you to report your child’s absence in one of three ways:
- using the SchoolMessenger® mobile app
- by logging into the SchoolMessenger® web site
- by calling into an interactive toll-free phone line

There are three platforms that our teachers are using – Office 365, Google Classroom and D2L. Your children should be familiar with their educators’ platforms and they should know their Usernames and Passwords to log in.

If your child does not know their Username or Password, you can contact your child’s teacher on Monday morning and they will provide it to you.

Communication with classroom teachers can continue to take place using previously arranged communication methods. Family Paint Nights
HCDSB families, students and staff are invited to participate in virtual family paint nights to get creative at home and learn about Indigenous art!
The online sessions will be hosted by Indigenous Artist, Moses Lunham, who will provide step-by- step instructions on how to create a painting at home. No prior artistic experience is necessary to get involved! St. Andrew Cookbook
You can begin pre-ordering your St. Andrew Community Cookbook at noon on Monday, April 19th, 2021 through School Cash Online. The cost of the cookbook is $20. Thank you to the many families who contributed photos and recipes, and thank you to the members of our School Council who worked tirelessly to put this beautiful book together for us. This is definitely a keepsake from our 2020-2021 school year that you won’t want to miss!
First Reconciliation liturgies will ALL BE DELAYED BY AT LEAST FOUR WEEKS:
At this time, we will be delaying the First Reconciliation dates to May 29 and June 5 (tentatively). These dates are contingent on no further restrictions going into effect.
Since families are only entering the church long enough to receive the sacrament and then exiting immediately, we can do this safely and well within our allotted 15% capacity. We will have several volunteers on hand to make sure social distancing is maintained and to disinfect the stations after each confession. Below is a brief video for you and your child to see what this will look like:
First Communion Masses will ALL BE DELAYED BY AT LEAST FOUR WEEKS
We know this is not the news you were wanting, but it is necessary. Our Masses were originally scheduled several weeks ago at 30% capacity, which has now been reduced to 15%. Further, as the Covid-19 case numbers continue to rise daily, we recognize that further restrictions on our capacity could be implemented at any time. At this time, we will be delaying the First Communion Masses to June 12, June 19 and June 26 (tentatively). These dates are contingent on no further restrictions going into effect.
We will hold off until WEDNESDAY, MAY 12 to open the new registration forms, in case we have to adjust our plans again. All previous registrations for a specific Mass are cancelled and all families will have to register for a Mass time again.

P.A. Day – No School on April 23rd
Friday, April 23rd is a Professional Activity Day for all staff. There will be no classes for students on this day.
