Start by doing what is necessary; then do what’s possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.Francis of Assisi
As you know, we had our first positive case of Covid-19 in our school. On the advice of Halton Public Health, in an abundance of caution, we have isolated the students in the affected class who came into contact with the positive case. Halton Public Health said no staff members are considered to have been in “close contact” because they were wearing their PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) at all times. Halton Public Health believes that the risk to staff and students at this time is minimal as we have been following all of their directives including cohorting of classes, physically distancing staff and students, wearing masks, and frequent hand hygiene.
To date, there have been no cases of Covid-19 contracted or transmitted at a school in HCDSB. All known cases were contracted in the community and brought into school.
The best way to keep Covid-19 out of our schools is through the use of the Daily School Screening Tool. It is very important that parents and caregivers use the Daily School Screening Tool with each of their children prior to coming to school each day.
If you have any questions for Halton Public Health, they can be reached by calling 311. We have found them to be extremely supportive and very helpful as we navigate this new environment.
When Should I Keep My Child Home?
Each morning, you must use the Daily School Screening Tool with your child(ren). If they have any of the following symptoms:
- new or worsening cough (not related to other known causes/conditions)
- shortness of breath or difficulty breathing (not related to other known causes such as asthma)
- sore throat
- runny or stuffy nose (not related to other known causes such as seasonal allergies)
- decrease or loss of sense of smell or taste
- pink eye
- headache that’s unusual or long-lasting
- muscle aches that are unusual
- extreme tiredness or fatigue (not related to other known causes)
- sluggishness or lack of appetite (for young children)
Here are the steps to take:
Your child cannot return to school until your child:
- Has a negative result from a Covid-19 test
- Is seen by a medical doctor who confirms the symptoms are not related to Covid-19
- Has isolated at home for 14 days AND is symptom-free for 24 hours.

Thank you for reinforcing at home the importance of wearing masks with your children. Everyone is doing an excellent job following this protocol, we are so proud of our students, and we are grateful to you for your support. We kindly request that parents wear masks when dropping off or picking up their students. It can be a challenge to maintain a 2 meter distance from others so we appreciate your co-operation in keeping everyone safe.
Many of our students have been proudly wearing their St. Andrew masks which come in both Youth and Adult sizes. We have a limited supply left for purchase if you would like to order them for your child(ren) you can still do so via School CashOnline.
Orange Shirt Day: Every Child Matters – Sept. 30th
September 30th is recognized as Orange Shirt Day. This day acknowledges the residential school system and recognizes the harm they did to Indigenous children’s sense of self-esteem and wellbeing. We are encouraging our staff and students to wear orange shirts to come together in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come.
Change to Learning Environment Request Form
On Thursday, September 24, you should have received an email sent on behalf of our Director, Pat Daly, explaining the process for requesting a change to your child’s learning environment – either from face-to-face learning to online learning, or from online learning back to face-to-face learning.
If you would like to request a change for your child, the form will be open until Thursday, October 1 at midnight. Only complete the form if you would like to change your child’s current learning environment. Please note that you must complete a separate form for EACH of your children.
If we have a significant number of students switching either to face-to-face or online instruction this may result in our having to restructure our current classroom placements and may result in your child moving classrooms and/or changing teachers. It is also important to note that if you move your child from in-school learning to online learning, we cannot guarantee that they will return to the same class and teacher should you wish to return them to school later in the school year.
If you have any questions about the process or the learning environments, please refer to the email or contact Mrs. Boulos at email@example.com
Class Photos Postponed
EdgeImaging is committed to maintaining safety first and will continue to closely monitor and comply with all board and provincial orders related to COVID-19. As they are still awaiting clear direction from the school board and public health department on fall photo days, all photo days scheduled through the remainder of 2020 will be postponed. They will update schools when they are able to safely come and take pictures in the new year.
Fire Drill – Sept 28th
We will be having our first fire drill on Monday, September 29th, weather permitting. In keeping with the public health protocols, the Fire Marshall has sent school boards the protocol for conducting drills during COVID-19. Each class/cohort will perform the drill separately to ensure physical distancing is maintained according to public health guidelines. A one time alarm will ring and then each class will be prompted to conduct the drill through the PA system. If there is an actual fire alarm outside of our drills, all students would evacuate according to our fire plan.
School Council Meeting
We will have our first Catholic School Council Meeting on Wednesday, October 7th. The meeting will be held virtually through Microsoft TEAMs at 6:30 PM. Parents who have submitted and/or received a nomination have been notified of their position on School Council. A link to the online meeting will be emailed to members prior to the meeting. Should parents who are not on this year’s School Council wish to attend the meeting, please email Mrs. Boulos at firstname.lastname@example.org as all are welcome!
There are still 2019-2020 yearbooks available for purchase. The cost is $22. They can be purchased through School CashOnline. If your child is currently learning online, and you purchased a yearbook, they are in our front vestibule and can be picked up between 9:30-3:00 or 4:00-4:30 PM.
