Extension of School Closure

On Tuesday, May 19, the Ministry of Education announced that it is extending the school closure period for all students for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. While it saddens us deeply to know that we will not be returning to finish off the school year together face-to-face, we understand that this decision has been made as a safety precaution to protect our students and help minimize the spread of COVID-19 in our community.

Teacher-led Distance Learning will continue via our virtual platforms for the remainder of the school year. As Mr. Daly stated in his email to parents on Friday evening, “Our focus since the beginning of this period of extended school closure has been to keep the health and well-being of our students, families and staff at the forefront, while providing continuity of learning for our students that is flexible and accessible. During this time, many of our teachers have explored a variety of teaching strategies and formats to engage students in distance learning.”

Our staff will continue to work diligently to engage our students in meaningful learning for the next five weeks. Please continue to provide us with your feedback so that we can better meet your children’s learning needs by adapting our practice.

Access to Schools to Gather Personal Belongings

We know that when and how you will be able to retrieve your children’s personal belongings is on many of your minds. The school board is currently working with the Halton Region Public Health Department to plan a protocol for parents to access our school safely to gather any personal belongings that were left behind prior to the school closure. Once we have been given a protocol that will ensure everyone’s safety, we will be communicating that with you.

Grade 8 Graduation

Our Grade 8 teachers have been meeting virtually to strategize how best to honour and celebrate our graduates in a safe and meaningful way. We are currently in the beginning planning stages for a virtual ceremony to take place in the end of June. Our Grade 8 teachers will consult with their students and parents as we organize this milestone event.
