St. Andrew Student Igniting Hope in Oakville

Tiago Medeiros embodied our Catholic Education Week theme by igniting hope for the patrons of The Kerr Street Mission in Oakville this week. Tiago, a Grade Five student in Mr. Spence’s class, was assigned a Religion project to research a local charity and create a slideshow presentation about his chosen charity.

This project sparked a desire for Tiago to not only work on his project but to take it a step further and offer a helping hand to The Kerr Street Mission. Tiago created a TicToc video requesting donations of non-perishable food items which he and his mom then posted to their social media platforms. Tiago planned to collect the items and deliver them to the charity he had just learned about through his research.

To Tiago’s surprise, there was an outpouring of love and support from the neighbourhood and what was planned to be a few items turned into a trailer full of food donations for The Kerr Street Mission. With assistance from his family, Tiago delivered the much-needed food items to The Kerr Street Mission this week. What a great way to model our Catholic Faith teachings and ignite hope for those in need!

We are so proud of you Tiago!
