When Christ comes, will He find a warm heart? Mark the season of Advent by loving and serving others with God’s own love and concern ~ Mother Teresa

Rejoice! It is the season of expectant waiting, hopeful anticipation, and cheerful preparation! To learn more, watch this short video from Busted Halo.

Blessings to our Grade 2 students who received the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time on Saturday. We wish them the peace and amazing love of God’s forgiveness on this grace-filled occasion. Many thanks to their teachers, their families, and our Parish team who prepared them for this momentous occasion.

As part of our Christmas Tradition, the Jesse Tree is used as a form of the Advent Calendar. Jesse was the father of King David, and the Bible tells us that Jesus is descended from the House of David and is a new branch on the Jesse Tree. On December 10th, and 7:00 pm, Mary Mother of God Parish will be hosting a very special Twilight Advent Mass for all families who attend St. Andrew, St. Marguerite, Holy Family and St. Gregory schools. With the beginning of Advent, we celebrate Jesus’ ancestry. We would like to also celebrate YOUR ancestry, and children are invited to bring their grandparents to this special celebration of the New Liturgical Year.

After Mass, we will have a Christmas sing-along in the church, along with refreshments. You are invited to send in photos of your children with their grandparents to be displayed on the big screens during this lovely celebration of family. Please email your photos to Debbie Frey via We hope to see you there!

As Advent approaches, we prepare our homes and hearts for one of the holiest celebrations of our Catholic faith, the birth of our Lord.  It is a time for celebration and a time for us to reflect on how we are living Christ’s mission of serving others, especially the poor.  With his Holiness Pope Francis as our leader, we are being constantly reminded that Jesus called us to serve those in need.

This Christmas season, our school community will continue to support the St. Vincent de Paul Society and families in need who live in our immediate neighbourhood.

Please help to support families by bringing in a gift card for either Walmart  or  Canadian Superstore. Student participants will hang an ornament on our Tree of Love. Please help us fill our St. Andrew tree with the light of kindness and hope for families that are less fortunate.

We will start receiving the gift cards on Monday, December 2 and ask that all gift cards be delivered to the school by Friday, December 6th.

Important reminders about inclement weather, transportation cancellations, & emergency school closures are available on our HCDSB website. Check them out here:
