I like it when someone tells me ‘I don’t agree’. This is a true collaborator. ~ Pope Francis
The students made a smooth transition back to school after the Christmas Break. Everyone returned ready to learn and well-prepared to enjoy outdoor play with all of their winter gear. We hope all of that gear made its way home at the end of the week. Please continue to send your children to school with extra mittens, hats, face warmers, boots and snow pants, as needed, so that they can enjoy their recess play.
We held our Grade 1- 8 Code of Conduct assemblies on Wednesday to review with students the routines and expectations at school so that everyone feels safe and included. Please discuss some of the important messages we discussed with your child(ren).
The Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectation that we are currently working on is being an Effective Communicator who speaks, writes and listens according to our Gospel values. Effective Communicators care about others and speak up for them. They are honest and think carefully before they react or speak. They respect the languages of others and don’t make fun of the way someone else speaks or communicates. They communicate clearly and effectively through their speech, their writing and/or their use of digital technologies.
Catholic School Council Meeting

Through the Sacrament of Confirmation, we receive an outpouring of the Holy Spirit, deepening and strengthening the Grace we received at our Baptism. This is a special time of year for our Grade 7 students who will be receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation on Saturday, January 19th, 2018 at Mary Mother of God Parish at 10:00 am. We ask that students arrive dressed in their Sunday best, 30 minutes prior, to ensure they have enough time to prepare for the entry procession. We ask you to keep our Grade 7 students in your prayers so that they may receive this sacrament with openness and willingness to accept God’s personal gift.
Youth-Led Family Mass – The next Youth-Led Family Mass will be taking place on Saturday, January 19th at 5:00 pm. There will be lively music and joyful prayer. Come and be inspired by the young people in our community!
Grill Deacon Jerek – Grade 8 students are invited to join us for Youth Group on January 19th. Deacon Jerek has agreed to answer any questions you have about God, your faith, and our Catholic teachings. Mass is at 5:00 pm followed by dinner and discussion from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. There is no cost for this event.
Student Safety When Signing Out Over the Lunch Hour
To help keep our students safe, please remember that we require written permission for students to leave school property unaccompanied by a parent or guardian during the lunch hour. As well, we continue to ask all students to sign out and back in again with their homeroom teacher if they will be leaving school property over the lunch hour. This request includes students who go home daily at lunchtime. We would ask for your help in reminding them of this procedure, reviewing your expectations for where they should be and how they should conduct themselves when they are off school property over the lunch hour, and in reminding them to be on time when they return to school in the afternoon. Please remember that students are NOT supervised by school staff when they are off school property, this includes in the park across the street from the school. We appreciate your support in helping keep all of our students safe.
