Weekly Update Sept. 10, 2018

The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members. ~ Coretta Scott King

Thank you to all of our St. Andrew staff, students, and parents for a wonderful start to a new school year!

Family Package Information

Thank you for completing and returning family information packages and updated student verification forms.  If you have not already done so please return your forms to the classroom teacher as soon as possible.

Medical Perils

If your child has a medical condition such as anaphylaxis, asthma, diabetes, or epilepsy,  please return the medical conditions package and appropriate medications. We want to keep your child safe by having the correct information and medications on hand. If you need a new package, please contact the office.

Interruptions to the School Day

We would like to keep interruptions to the children’s school day to a minimum. Please make every effort to book medical appointments and extra-curricular activities outside of the school day. When that is not possible, and you need to pick up your child from school at a time other than the regular dismissal time, we kindly ask that you write a note in your child’s agenda that day. Also, make sure your child knows that what time you will be picking him/her up. When our office staff need to call a student down from the classroom, we are interrupting instructional time for the entire class. letting the teacher know about early dismissal through the agenda helps us to minimize distractions and allow students to maintain their focus on their learning. We thank you for your assistance with this request.

Parking Lot Safety

As children are still getting used to dismissal routines, we entreat you to use caution and be vigilant in the parking lots for the safety of our children. All parents using the Kiss-and-Ride are reminded to use patience and not get out of your car. Please always wait your turn and pull up to the curb. Please do not pass another vehicle in the Kiss-and-Ride. Please follow the traffic flow even if your children have disembarked.

Students should never be running across the parking lot to enter vehicles. If you wish to walk your child you must park your car first! We cannot have parents parked in the Kiss-and-Ride lanes as this inhibits traffic flow, blocks parents who have parked as requested, and creates a hazard for children who are getting in and out of cars. If all of the spots have been taken, please park in the parking lot directly across the street from the school.

Once again we will be enlisting the support of the Halton Police to monitor our parking lot during morning drop off and afternoon pick up. People who violate parking lot regulations will be ticketed.

We thank you for your support and understanding. As always, the safety of our children is our number one priority.

Curriculum Night

Our Curriculum Night will be held at St. Andrew on Wednesday, September 19th at 6:30 p.m. Please join us in the gymnasium for a brief presentation. This will be followed by presentations and/or activities in our classrooms. Look for more information to follow.

Opening School Mass

On Thursday, September 13 at 10:00 am we will be celebrating Mass together at Mary Mother of God Parish to mark the beginning of the school year. We will be walking to the Church together as a school community. We need parent volunteers to walk with our classes; if you would like to volunteer to walk with your child’s class, please contact your child’s teacher. All are welcome to attend.

Transportation

Thank you for your patience with bussing as drivers adjust to their new routes. Halton Bus has let us know that we can expect another week or two of delays as everyone adjusts to new schedules. You can check for delays at haltonbus.ca or subscribe here: https://www.haltonbus.ca/notifications/

Catholic School Council Nominations

Role of Catholic School Council:  Ontario Regulation 612 states that every school must hold elections for the School Council within the first 30 days of each school year. The term of office is one year.  We want to encourage every parent to consider volunteering to sit on the Catholic School Council this year.  The school needs active and interested parents to maintain the quality of the school community we enjoy and to address the challenges the community will face in the future.  All council nomination forms are due into the school by 4:00 pm Friday, September 14th. If you are interested in being on our school Council, please pick up a nomination form at the school office from Mrs. Dunn.

If elections are required, the candidates will be asked to provide a one-page information biography sheet, and this will be posted on our school website. This year, if needed, elections for our 2018/2019 Catholic School Council will take place in September according to the following timelines:

  • Nomination Forms Due:  Friday, September 14th
  • Profiles Due (if required): Wednesday, September 18th
  • Council Elections (if needed): Wednesday, September 19th
  • First Council Meeting:  Tuesday, October 2nd at 6:30 pm

All parents are welcome to attend regular Catholic School Council meetings.  Meeting dates will be posted on our school web page.  The meetings will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will be held in the Library.

PA Day September 17, 2018
