Welcome Back!

As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow Me”, Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.”

Matthew 4:18-19

As the nights begin to get shorter and cooler, September approaches and with it another exciting school year! The first day of school for all students in grades 1-8 is Tuesday, September 4th, 2018.

We are excited to welcome our new Vice Principal, Mrs. Michelle Kotulak. Mrs. Kotulak is coming to us most recently from St. Anthony of Padua where she was the Vice Principal. She brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience.

All Year 2 students will begin school on Thursday, September 6th while our Year 1 students will have a staggered entry on Thursday, September 6th and Friday, September 7th.

Class Placements

Beginning Friday, August 31st, 2018, you will be able to access information about your child(ren)’s class placement. This information will be available on the Board’s website at: www.hcdsb.org. Please click on “Elementary Class Placements” from the homepage which will then direct you to the school listing page. Once you have arrived on this page, please click “St. Andrew”  and follow the link on the top right-hand corner to “Class Placements”.  In order to access this information, you will need to have your child’s Ontario Education Number (OEN), which you can find on his or her report card.

If you have a concern with your child’s class placement we are happy to discuss it with you, however, we will not be able to address changes to class placements until after the first week of school. The volume of calls during the first week of school is extremely high, and as I am sure you can appreciate, our number one priority is ensuring the safety of our students and supporting them in settling into their new classroom environment. One of the goals of education is to develop resilient children who are able to adapt to change and cooperate with disparate groups of people. While our parental instincts are often to stick to what is familiar, as educators, we often find that the children who achieve best are those who can make new friends easily and find common ground with others. Children thrive with lots of friends and our teachers are experts in helping little ones develop their friendship skills. Often a tearful child on the first day of school is excited to share with parents the names of their new friends in a few short days. Sometimes waiting out the tears is the best support we can provide for our children.

Medical Concerns

The school office will be open to the public as of Monday, August 27th, 2018 at 8:30 a.m. If your child has a life-threatening allergy and/ or any other serious medical condition, please call the school to make an appointment with Mrs. Kotulak or Mrs. Boulos to discuss your child’s profile and to provide updated medical forms prior to the first day of school.
