Over the next few weeks we will be holding our evacuation and lockdown drills to practice our emergency procedures.
We are sad to say goodbye to Ms Laura Coulson and Ms Victoria Riddle who will be moving on in September to new adventures. You will both be greatly missed at St. Andrew!
Dressing for the Weather
With the return of good weather, it is important that students are dressed appropriately for recess. Please send your child to school with a hat and a reusable water bottle to ensure that they are comfortable throughout the day. We would encourage you to make applying sunscreen part of your morning routine rather than send it to school. If you are sending sunscreen to school, please make sure that it is not a spray application as the sprays can make floors slippery if misapplied. Students need to wear clothing that does not reveal their undergarments and provides freedom of movement so they can run and play at recess. Flip flops and open-toed sandals should not be worn at recess.
Please note we follow our board policy regarding Extreme Heat (with or without humidex):
- cooler than 35 degrees C, students remain outside for all regular outdoor activities
- between 35 & 40 degrees C, students may remain outside for no longer than 20 min intervals.
- hotter than 40 degrees C, students must remain inside

Student Safety When Signing Out Over the Lunch Hour
To help keep our students safe, please remember that we require written permission for students to leave school property unaccompanied by a parent or guardian during the lunch hour. As well, we continue to ask all students to sign out and back in again at the school office if they will be leaving school property over the lunch hour. This request includes students who go home daily at lunchtime. We would ask for your help in reminding them of this procedure, reviewing your expectations for where they should be and how they should conduct themselves when they are off school property over the lunch hour, and in reminding them to be on time when they return to school in the afternoon. Please remember that students are not supervised by school staff when they are off school property, and this includes in the park across the street from the school.
Dismissal Routines on the Pavement
Thank you to all you who have made a conscious effort to remain outside the boundary created by our double yellow lines and the grass on our playground at dismissal time. This has greatly eased the amount of traffic and has made it much easier for our teachers to ensure that all of our little ones meet with a parent or guardian at dismissal time. While it may not be as convenient to wait outside the yellow lines, the safety of our students must be our number one priority at all times!
Missing Library Books and Textbooks
We are still missing over 900 items from our school library. Please help us! Remind your children to return any library books and textbooks this week. These items are costly to replace and a comprehensive library that is well-stocked is an indispensable learning support for our children.
If the weather holds out, we will be having our Play Day on Tuesday morning, June 12, for students in grades 1 – 8. Please make sure that your child comes to school with sunscreen on, a hat, proper footwear, and a reusable water bottle so that they can enjoy the day safely. Our rain date will be Wednesday, June 20th.
End of the Year School Mass
Our last mass for the school year will be taking place at Mary Mother of God Parish at 10:00 am on Thursday, June 14th. We will be celebrating our Grade 8 graduates during the mass. We hope that you will be able to come and pray with us.
Our last Pizza Day for the school year will be taking place on Friday, June 15th. We would like to thank all of the many parent volunteers who have made these wonderful treat lunches possible for our school community. We are very grateful to you for all of the hours you have dedicated to making these days possible.
Social Media Fitness
Chris Vollum will be presenting at St. Marguerite Elementary School on Monday, June 11 at 7:00 pm. this is a free event offered by their School Council. They have kindly invited our parent community to attend. For more information on how you can help your children use Social Media safely click HERE. Chris Vollum will also be speaking to our Junior and Intermediate students here at St. Andrew on Monday, June 18th. He will be presenting to our Intermediate students at 9:15 am and to our Junior students at 10:45 am. Parents are also welcome to attend these two presentations.
Our last School Council Meeting for the 2017-18 school year will be taking place in the Library at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, June 20th. All are welcome to attend.
Grade 8 Graduation
Our Grade 8 graduation will be taking place in our school gymnasium at 7:00 pm on Friday, June 22nd. Graduates will need to arrive at 6:30 pm. Your Grade 8 children will be bringing home more information about the week leading up to their graduation.
Our talent show auditions are in full-swing. From martial arts, to singing, dancing, and classical music, St. Andrew has talent! This year’s extravaganza will be taking place on the morning of Tuesday, June 26th. Make sure you save the date, all are welcome!
Lost and Found
All of our Lost and Found items will be put on display in the front hallway. Any items that remain unclaimed by Friday, June 22nd will be donated to charity. Please stop by and pick up any missing items that belong to your children.
School Organization 2018-19
If you are planning on moving out of the area or changing schools, please let our office know as soon as possible to facilitate the school organization for the 2018-19 school year. If your child receives transportation, please contact HSTS directly (firstname.lastname@example.org) so they can ensure transportation is in place for the first day of school.
Bus Transportation 2018-19
If you require bus transportation for the 2018-19 school year, you can access the HSTS site directly to see the bus route and times. You will require your child’s OEN.
