Prayer for the First Week of Advent

Dear Jesus, You are the HOPE in our messy world. This Advent help us slow down, listen to your voice, and focus on what’s really important. We place our hope in you as we prepare our hearts to celebrate your birth on Christmas.

In the midst of our hurry, as we prepare for Christmas, the Holy Season of Advent calls to us. This call to God’s people reminds us to slow down and wait “in joyful hope” as we prepare for Christ’s coming. The word Advent means coming or arrival. Advent is a time of preparation, a time to get our spiritual houses ready for the coming of Christ. Together as a school community we will prepare our hearts for the coming of our Saviour. Mrs. Messom and Mrs. Humphries grade 3 classes will be leading us in our Advent liturgy this Monday, November 29th as we mark the start of this holy season.

Progress Reports Update

We realize that some of our families encountered difficulties accessing their child(ren)’s progress report.  For those families who emailed Mr. Susi or Mrs. Durand, a hard copy of the progress report will be sent home with your child on Monday.  We apologize for this inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

Pep Rally & Danceathon Fundraiser Totals

Thank you very much to our school community for your generous support of our annual Halloween Danceathon fundraiser. We announced our totals and prize winners at our virtual Pep Rally last Tuesday. Collectively we raised $19,105 which far surpassed our goal! This money will be used towards the purchase of items such as: Religious articles and displays for our school, iPads, gym and recess play equipment, classroom games and learning materials.

Mr. Susi and Mrs. Durand were so excited to share the news with the students that they took the Pep Rally “on the road” and through the hallways of SHOJ. It was amazing to see the excited classes in real time! We also engaged in a whole school virtual game lead by Mr. Nurse – it was a real Kahoot!

Congratulations to our top three classes who raised the most money per capita who winning a special classroom celebration; Mrs.Humphries $68 (Grade 3); Mlle.Nobre $58 (Gr. 2 French Immersion); and Mrs. Bender and Mrs. Shkopiak $53 (Grade 5)

Congratulations as well to Mlle. Nobre’s class who had 100% participation!!

Also, congratulations to our student prize winners: Sebastian P. in Mme. Denvir’s Class who won a family night at the movies and Matthew B. in Mrs. Vukovic’s class who won Dairy Queen treats for the family!

Christmas Hamper Program

We will once again continue with our annual school Christmas Hamper donations to support families who are part of the Catholic Children’s Aid Society. In the past, our wonderful SHOJ families have been so generous we have supported many families and we make a positive difference in their lives at Christmas!

We need your help! As a Catholic Faith community, we will join together in this worthwhile cause.

More information will be coming this week!

Scent Awareness

Please keep in mind that our school is a scent sensitive environment where we have students and staff members with very severe allergies to any fragrances such as perfume, cologne, and scented hand/body lotions/sprays. Please do not wear this when visiting or volunteering in the school and please do not have your child wear these products. We appreciate your support and cooperation in this regard.

Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC)

The Special Education Advisory Committee’s (SEAC) mandate is to make recommendations to the Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) in matters affecting the establishment and development of Special Education programs and services for students with exceptional needs.

SEAC is comprised of members nominated by local community associations and that are approved by the HCDSB. Parents that serve on SEAC come from local associations that promote the interests and well-being of students with exceptional needs and abilities.
