Weekly Update September 20th – 24th

May your week be filled with good thoughts, kind people and happy moments.

We have enjoyed a wonderful second week back as a school community.  As we officially begin the fall season this week, our families, staff, and students are continuing to transition into this new school year.

O Lord, once again, we witness your creation moving from one season to another.  Change is your instrument of growth that brings us deeper into relationship with you.  May your word be the lantern that guides the roads of change in our lives.  We ask this through Christ our Lord.  Amen.

COVID Screening

Thank you to all of our families for providing a daily confirmation/log of your child’s school screening. Starting this Monday, parents do not need to complete the Confirmation of Daily Student Screening Log and submit to their child’s teacher.  However, it is extremely important that parents and guardians still continue to complete the COVID-19 School Screening Tool for each child every day before leaving home for school.  To access the Ministry’s Screening Tool please click HERE.

Save the Date! SHOJ Curriculum Night Tuesday, September 28th 2021.

Once again, this year’s Curriculum Night will be held in a virtual format.  The focus of this evening will be on classroom program and delivery, class norms and routines, expectations of students and parent-teacher communication.  Presentations will be 15 minutes in duration and there will be an opportunity to ask questions.  As we continue to navigate the challenges and restrictions of the COVID pandemic, communication between home and school continues to be a matter of priority and importance. Further information will be provided in the upcoming week.

Orange Shirt Day – September 30th, 2021

Every child matters

On September 30th, Canadians all across the country will wear orange shirts to remember and honour the Indigenous children who were taken from their communities and families to residential schools. This Orange Shirt Day has particular significance because it marks the first observance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We are encouraging all of our staff and students at SHOJ to wear an orange shirt on September 30th to honour those children who never made it home. This will be a non-uniform day for anyone who is wearing any orange clothing.

Family Paint Night in Recognition of Orange Shirt Day

HCDSB families, students and staff are invited to participate in a virtual family paint night in recognition of Orange Shirt Day.

The online session will be hosted by Indigenous Artist, Moses Lunham, who will provide step-by-step instructions on how to create the painting at home. No prior artistic experience is necessary to get involved. However, those interested in participating can prepare for the art session by collecting the following art supplies.
