Weekly Update: June 22nd-26th

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to our last weekly update for this school year. It has been a very unique year in many ways!

We extend our thanks and appreciation to our staff members who are moving on from Sacred Heart of Jesus. They have given their time and love all year long and we are grateful for having them as part of our SHOJ family.

Thank you to: Ms. DeJonge, Mlle Rubatto and Ms. Boland. You came to help us in a time of need and had to fill the shoes of cherished teachers. Thank you also to Ms. Moores and Mr. Vanderveken, Educational Assistants. You have all done a marvelous job and we are eternally grateful for the role you have played at our school this year. We wish you the best of luck in your future schools and hope that our paths cross again.

A very big thank you and a sad goodbye to Ms. Prosia. Your dedication to the students and this community has been so greatly appreciated over the years. We wish you the best of luck as you move on to your new school. You have touched the hearts of many and you will be missed!

Thank You to:

All the parents who serve on our school council. You give of your time to make sure that SHOJ students and families have the greatest opportunities.

All the parent volunteers that have served this school over the year. Your support makes so much of what we do happen.

All parents and guardians for working collaboratively with our staff to nurture and educate your children….especially during the school closure period!

All the staff at SHOJ. You have such wonderful compassion and dedication to every student that walks through the door. You make a difference daily, demonstrating that the hands of God work in each one of you!

All the SHOJ Graduates of 2020. We extend our best wishes and prayers to you for continues success in your educational journey. We will miss you!

And of course, thank you to all our wonderful students! You are the reason we come to work every day. Your enthusiasm and joy of learning make it all worthwhile!!!

This year, in light of the school closures due to COVID-19, student report cards will be delivered electronically. The report cards will be delivered directly to parents and guardians by email on Wednesday, June 24th, 2020.

Parents and guardians will need their child’s Ontario Education Number (OEN) in order to access the report card. Your child’s OEN number can be found on a previous report card.

The Ministry has waived the expectation for both a teacher and parental signature for this reporting period. The School Principal’s electronic signature will appear on all student report cards.

As with all reporting periods, parents and guardians may contact their child’s teacher to arrange a time to discuss the report card.

You are also welcome to contact Mr. Susi (susij@hcdsb.org) or Mr. Cochrane (cochraned@hcdsb.org) with any questions or should you require further clarification.

Courtesy Seats on School Buses for the 2020-2021 School Year

Families with children who take the bus to school are advised that the application process for receiving courtesy seats on school buses will be delayed for the2020-21 school year. Due to physical distancing measures in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19, it may not be possible to grant courtesy seats or the process may be delayed for next school year.

However, parents and guardians can continue to submit a Courtesy Seat Application, and will be notified via email by Halton Transportation once a decision on this process has been made.

Please note that there is no guarantee that a courtesy seat will be offered if you submit an application, or if your child had a courtesy seat in the past. Visit the Halton Student Transportation Services website for more information: www.haltonbus.ca

HSTS thanks you for your patience and understanding during this time.

Waitlist Opens for Grades 6-8 Literacy and Math Summer Programs

Due to high enrolment, all new student registration requests submitted after June 10th will be added to the current waitlist. New classes will open based on teacher availability, and registrations will no longer be accepted when classes are full.

Parents and guardians can access the registration portal for their child to be added to the waitlist here: Summer Distance Learning
