Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to the last week of January. It is incredible how fast this month flew by. Thank you to all the families that registered their little ones for kindergarten this week. We look forward to welcoming our newest students in September!

Mental Health: Bell Let’s Talk Wednesday, January 29th
It can be challenging to talk about mental health. Sometimes parents, like others, avoid the conversation because they don’t know how to start, or they worry that they might put thoughts into their child’s head that had not been there, and will therefore, make things worse. Research tells us that this is not the case. Bringing up worries, concerns, changes in behavior etc. with your child will open the lines of communication rather than worsen the situation.
Please see the School Mental Health Ontario website (https://smho-smso.ca/) for more information.
On Wednesday, January 29th, across Canada, people will be tweeting and texting messages of hope and wellness in support of Mental Health. #BellLetsTalk is a campaign that supports the education and awareness around mental health and mental illness. For every tweet with the hashtag #BellLetsTalk, Bell will make a donation to this campaign. Here at SHOJ teachers will discuss mental health and ways you can help yourself or others feel their best! Students composed class tweets this past week in preparation to tweet them out on Wednesday! Please take a moment and retweet your support!
To provide students with a sample of activities they could participate in during Playground Pros Summer Camps, MLSE’s sport development group will be touring the six schools they are hoping to run camps out of this summer.
SHOJ is a proposed summer camp site and Playground Pros will be taking over our Grade 1-5 gym classes on Monday and Tuesday this week to provide physical literacy through programming with an emphasis on keeping kids active and excited in sport!
