Queen of Heaven C.E.S. Receives Gold EcoSchools Certification in 2016-2017! 


Ontario EcoSchools is an environmental education and certification program (from Kindergarten to Grade 12) that encourages our school community to develop our ecological literacy and reduce our environmental footprint.

The key areas of focus are: Teamwork & Leadership, Energy Conservation, Waste Minimization, School Ground Greening, Curriculum, and Environmental Stewardship. 

Through this program, our students and staff participate in environmental education and practices, developing the knowledge, skills, perspectives, and actions needed to be environmentally responsible citizens.

We follow the Catholic social teaching of being stewards of God’s creation by consistently implementing the following ECO initiatives at school:

  • Waste management – blue box recycling, green box composting
  • Energy conservation
  • Water conservation
  • Celebration of Earth Hour
  • School yard clean up
  • School Yard Greening – tree planting
  • Curriculum initiatives
  • Advertising and displaying our initiatives through regular PA announcements, newsletters and student displays
